Seems like some thing Broncos will take Maxx Williams to replace Julius Thomas.

 

The Broncos will lose all three tight ends, wide receiver Wes Welker, left guard Orlando Franklin, safety Rahim Moore, and defensive tackle Terrance Knighton if they can't re-sign some of those players.

 

They also need another inside linebacker for the switch to the 3-4 defense.

I would be surprised if Williams is still available. As for cornerback, why? Colvin and McCray are a nice starting duo. This team desperately needs help at linebacker, pass rusher, offensive tackle, tight end and running back. I could see them adding a corner on day three if a good value is there. But not at 36.

This one has changed a bit ! We're not taking a TE in the second round now. And while we might still pick someone for the OLine later in the draft, it's not really a priority in the second round any more.


So does that mean we are definitely going for an ILB like Perryman ? (Thinking Kendricks goes in round one now)

I think if Gurley is still there at 36, we should take him. Otherwise, we should take whoever remains of Kendricks/Perryman/McKinney in that order and then go RB in rd 3. That is my opinion at this point.

I don't know that McKinney is a great fit in this defense. Kendricks would fit in well. I think finding Poz's replacement is a priority in the draft.

I already think Ajayi is the 3rd best RB in this class, but I have David Johnson 2nd and Gordon 4th.

Perryman, Gurley, or Eric Rowe/Josh Shaw

 

Perryman would make a good Mike, IMO.  He played too heavy last year and it showed.  I think he could be an effective "light" Mike not unlike Mike Peterson was for us.

 

I wouldn't be unhappy with other RBs here, but healthy he's the better of them.  That's the big question.

 

Rowe and Shaw would be good FS candidates in our scheme.  If Rowe couldn't play FS at the NFL level, he'd certainly be able to handle corner in our scheme, making that position even that more competitive in the long run.  Shaw may be FS or bust, but still probably not a bad idea.

Beastmode? You must be watching the wrong RB. That terms suggests a tough RB who can bruise his way through defenders. Ajayi is about running around defenders as he's afraid to be touched. Now that's ok as even FT was the type to run around defenders, although he'd bruise his way when if he had to. The thing is, for being that kind of runner, Ajayi lacks the kind of cutting ability you see in great RBs, and
in the 40 he ran a mere 4.57. I seriously don't understand all this love for Ajayi, and I get the feeling he's going to get hurt and bust out in the NFL. I just can't shake that feeling about him.

It must be remembered that the Draft is the second punch of a 1-2 combination. I fully expect that the Jags will sign and thus pay (perhaps even overpay) a highly touted athlete to play TE for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Free Agency is about players that are ready to contribute immediately. The Draft is more of the Long Game. Thus I favor the selection of an ILB in Rd 2 because this is where the talent falls out in this draft around players like Denzel Perryman, Eric Kendricks and of course my favorite Paul Dawson of TCU. Of these three, I believe when the Draft comes around, Paul Dawson will be the most likely rated of these three.


There is always the chance that a highly rated player will drop to the Jags at Pick 36 and should that happen, the Jags will have to consider that player. I believe that Todd Gurley is just such a player. I don't expect the Gurley would be ready for Training Camp should he be selected but he should be available for the 2nd half of next season and he could be a singular factor that helps the Jags become a fully balanced Offense.


I believe that Gus Bradley believes in Defense so he will invest long term in his defense, but I also believe that he wants a balanced Offense and Gurley could be that Franchise RB that can make the Jags a perrinial playoff team.


It will obviously be interested to see how this offseason unfolds.

Couldn't agree more. I really like what I see in Abdullah, Gurley, and Green-Beckham in regards to offensive skill positions guys.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys see in David Johnson that justifies a 1st or 2nd round pick? I see flashes but needs a lot of coaching imo. Id like to see him be more aggressive and use his size. Like I said though its just my outlook and I could be missing something.

While the comparison to Marshawn Lynch might be a little much considering Lynch's exploits in the NFL, Ajayi's running style and body type are very similar to Lynch's and Ajayi features an improving stiff arm and physicality that has become Lynch's calling card. Ajayi has the ability to play all three downs while mashing in short yardage and near the goal line. Scouts have been quietly circling Ajayi as a second-tier running back who offers tremendous value on the second day (Rounds 2-3) of the draft.
