Regarding Gresham, my thoughts center on the relationship the draft has with Free Agency.

 

We all know that Marcedes Lewis is in the last year of his contract and is over the age of 30 which on the Jags roster is a rarity.

 

The most desirable effect would be the Jags drafting Marcedes Lewis' replacement and it could come in the person of either Maxx Williams or Clive Warford in either the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

 

There is also the thought that the 2nd and 3rd Rds could be the means for the team to secure its Franchise RB, be it Jay Ajayi or whomever and a slot WR like Tyler Lockett, with his 4.4/40 speed.

 

The signing of Jermaine Gresham would take the 2nd TE off the wish list such that the team could procure the RB and Slot WR.

 

I favor signing Gresham because he is so much like Marcedes Lewis but a few years younger and if he could be signed to a reasonable contract then an additional 5th or 6th round draft pick secured from trading a player that is in his final season with the team, might be used to move up in first 4 rounds and secure another more prized player in the draft.

 

These are my thoughts.

I'd be totally fine with Maxx Williams and someone like Gurley, or even Ajayi later on. A trade back out of 3 then selecting Gurley followed by Maxx, or vice versa, would be awesome. I'd rather go that route than Gresham IMO.

SI’s Peter King reports teams believe there’s a "good chance" free agent Greg Hardy is suspended for the first six games of the season.


Hardy's market has been extremely cool as teams await official word. Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reported earlier Monday that an announcement could come by Wednesday. Hardy has been informally linked to the Raiders, but the team has done its best to publicly downplay its interest.

FOX Sports Dallas' Mike Fisher reports the Cowboys are in negotiations with free agent Greg Hardy.


Fisher isn't a typical Rotoworld source, so we're proceeding with a bit of caution. It's an obvious fit, however. Owner/GM Jerry Jones has never shied away from taking on players with baggage, while Hardy would give the Cowboys' pass rush the spark it desperately needs. If Hardy ends up in Big D, it would quite likely be on a one-year deal. Hardy would be a match made in heaven with defensive guru Rod Marinelli.

At this point of free agency is where guys face the unfortunate truth of over pricing themselves. Expect alot of agents to be fired

  I agree that it's surprising Tramon Williams lasted as long on the open FA market,  based on the rapid pace of FA signings the first few days of the FA period.

 

  Yet,  considering the type of contract numbers mentioned in the article that Williams signed for and his age,  the wait was well worth it for him.  

 

  One thing that's very evident is that the increase in the salary cap this season has been beneficial for a large number of NFL veteran players.
