WTH?!? Adrian Peterson

Quote:So confused by this board...

Hardy was a heck no because he hit a woman...

Pierce is cool cause everyone gets DUI

Peterson is a No because of Age/Salary/Draft pick…not that fact that he beat his child.

The board, I will assume, had little issue with Hardy and Pierce because they were low-risk signings. Neither  were going to get a huge contract. They are also still in their prime (at least age wise).

Peterson is 30 years old, makes a lot of money, AND will require that we give up compensation.

That is why most are against this speculated chase of Peterson. It has nothing to do with the off-field stuff for most. It's about how it would not be prudent for this team, given where its at, to go after him.

Now if he gets cut and is free to sign?

Then we can talk.

Like I said to me both are despicable...

Biggest issue is you can't defend yourself against a drunk driver and they kill 10 times as many people per year.

I understand most people in a domestic abuse situation feel like they can't get out//defend themselves but there are resources out there to help those in a similar situation and if you have had enough shoot the [BLEEP].

I just find it ironic that Hardy was an immediate no to most based on past incidents and Peterson wasn't based on similar incident.

Do you now see the difference?

And it's sad that numbers on the contract is what makes the difference...not really the incident.

You don't find it at all hypocritical to bash a Hardy signing but not an AP when both did similar things?

I think some will argue that what Hardy and AP did were not similar. I know I remember a segment (not just here, but in other forums and even in the media) who supported AP, citing reasons that they too grew up in a culture where physical discipline was not only common, but even encouraged.

Does intent factor into this at all?

Is it possible he intended to discipline the child but did not intend to draw blood or hit in an area other than the buttocks?

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

If AP would have gotten away with it, that would be another story. He served his suspension and paid the price, or is currently paying the price (pending on rehabilitation).. Once that is done, he moves on just like Hardy and deserves to play again..

Quote:A 30-year-old with tons of wear, coming off a one-year suspension? No thanks. Let's take the second or third-round pick Minnesota is looking for and spend it on a young back instead.

if we were gonna spend something that high on a back then id rather have gurley

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

It looks like Ben Dogra,  Adrian Peterson's agent is trying to force the Vikings to move on from Peterson:

I got 5 that says no way All Day ends up in Jacksonville.

If I had more than 5, I'd probably bet that, too.

And with that article, it's clear the Vikings have no intention of actually trading him.

One size is ginning up the trade talk, and the team is basically digging in.  Are they doing so to try to maximize his trade value?  Or do they really intend to retain his rights?

Personally, I'd rather see the Jags just stay out of the mess all together.  Draft your long term solution at RB and move on. His age and too much baggage make him unappealing regardless of how good Peterson WAS.

By the same token one could say Hardy intend wasn't to injure but to make her leave...

My overall take on the Vikings and the Adrian Peterson situation is that the plan is for them to try to maximize his trade value.   Rick Spielman did this with Percy Harvin,   when publicly saying that the Vikings aren't attempting to trade Harvin.   Not long afterwards,  Harvin was on his way to Seattle for 1st and 7th Round picks in 2013 and a 3rd Round pick in 2014.   While I don't think Spielman realistically expects anything close to that trade package in return for Peterson,   he's trying to make the best of a bad situation.

I believe Peterson probably has at least one more season as a differential runner.  Yet,  I totally understand the thought process of not wanting to trade for him.   That much more if the trade compensation is the equivalent of at least a 2nd Round pick.    With Peterson's off the field baggage,  even a 3rd Round pick might not be worth it for a team in the Jaguars position.   This despite the team's very favorable salary cap situation.    Though I don't think Peterson will have the level of negative backlash that a Ray Rice or Greg Hardy addition would have had,   there still would be a significant distraction if Peterson came into the team's fold.

I really don't see anyone giving up a 1st or 2nd day pick for Peterson.  I don't care how good he has been, he's crossed that 30 year old threshold, and he's got a huge contract to deal with.  I'm sure there will be teams interested in talking trade, but I don't expect the Jags to pony up a high enough pick, or be willing to pay the contract he's currently playing under.

I wonder if all the high and mighties in this thread would have moved on from Ray Lewis back in the day?

I'm not sure who the "high and mighties" are you're referring to, but I personally would have moved on from Lewis back in the day if I was a fan of that team, but that's just me.  I'm opposed to the Peterson thing for more than just the abuse charges.  There's the business side of this that has to be taken into consideration as well.

I don't think any team will give up a 1st day pick for Adrian Peterson.   And I agree that the Jags probably won't satisfy the Vikings from the standpoint of trade compensation.   However,  I do think there's a very realistic chance that the Arizona Cardinals will be willing to pay as high as the equivalent of a 2nd Round pick for Peterson.

With Carson Palmer entering his 13th NFL season and Larry Fitzgerald entering his 12th NFL season,  there's a high degree of urgency for the Cardinals to get over the top in the 2015 season.    If the Vikings can convince the Cardinals brass that there's significant competition for Peterson's services,  I think a trade with Arizona will be worked out.   With Ben Dogra and the Cardinals restructuring Peterson's contract in a manner that both sides will be content.

You are better off just keeping that nickel in your pocket.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

So judgmental in this topic today; Pierce's prior; and Hardy's before that. Are we now the Jacksonville Religions of the Judicials? Just wondering......

P.S. Everybody makes mistakes. Forgiveness is the ultimate strength. I'd take AP/AD for a 4th or lower. Nothing higher. However, I'd prefer to draft our future workhorse.

GO JAGS!!
