Melvin Gordon to meet with Jaguars!

Quote:If speed and big play is your calling card, which it is for Gordon...4.52 is not impressive at all. It'd be one thing if he was a 220lb back running 4.52, but he's not.

Quote:Maybe because he was very average during the combine.. He was supposed to be a speed demon, but he really just ran a 4.52 and wasn't that impressive in his other measurables either.

Maybe it just shows you how slow that conference is because both Abdullah and Gordon looked fast enough on the field, albeit against slow competition.

Argument doesn't hold water in this case. Gordon had 391 yards on 40 attempts for an average of 9.77 per carry against the two SEC teams (LSU & Auburn) he faced. Competition in the SEC is plenty fast enough isn't it?

I was hesitant about him all year. In the Outback bowl he made a believer out of me. Man he is lightning fast to the edge. One of the best I have ever seen.

I've been a fan since the end of 2013 but that's not even why I made the post. I just had to make the point that Gordon did just fine speed wise against two good SEC teams.

Gordon's no Chris Johnson but he doesn't have to be IMO. He has a good overall game and has good speed.

Well if you go by workout times and numbers then a guy like Lesean Mccoy wouldn't be worth a first round pick because at less than 200 pounds he ran a 4.5 40 and and did terrible in the vert and broad jump at his pro day.

Trust what you see on the field and don't worry about too much about the workouts

I agree with you here.

I won't be upset with Melvin Gordon at 36. Not what I prefer at 36 but I could see it happening and him being a very good player.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Just a few plays that I liked from his LSU game that I feel show his talent outside of having a good offensive line.

3:55 minute mark: Turns what should be a no gain or negative play into about a 5 yard gain

4:23 minute mark: Shows patience and a beautiful jump cut into the hole for a big gainer. He get's ran down but still, probably my favorite play of his from this game. Even if he only gets 10 yards it would have been a nice play because of his footwork.

5:39 minute mark: He might not be the best pass protector but I feel that he's willing to stick his nose in there

I know this is cherry picking but neither of them are long untouched TD's or highlight plays for the most part. They're just little things I like that IMO many good RB's need and have.

(I don't know how to imbed videos but if somebody wants to clue me in I'll edit it, or maybe the mods will do it for me)

I liked their comparison to DeMarco Murray.

2013 early Rd 2 RBs:

Bernard

L Bell

Monte Ball

Lacy

2014 early Rd 2 RBs:

Sankey

Jeremy Hill

Carlos Hyde

The RBs that have been going early in Rd 2 have mostly been Great value picks for their draft position and return of their production on the field. Bell, Lacy, Hill, Bernard have been excellent Rd 2 pickups IMO.

If Gurley, Gordon, or any of the other top RB prospects are sitting there at the Jags Rd 2 pick,, I wouldn't be disappointed at all if Dave pulls the trigger on one of them.

I see Telvin Coleman a good comp to Murray

If Gurley is there at 36 and the Jags feel the knee checks out enough medically I'd hope Dave would sprint the card to the podium himself.

Leonard Williams and Gurley would certainly be an unreal haul.

2 top 10 prospects to add to our mix.

North South runners with similar body type. Not a bad comp in my opinion. I believe Coleman has more break-away speed though.
Crab Cakes and Football! That's what Jacksonville does!
