If we can't trade down I'm thinking we just take Leonard as the BPA. If he's not there, then I'm still tossed between Fowler, Ray and Beasley. I like them all.

Them not showing interest really doesn't mean anything.  Caldwell of all people doesn't really tip his hand.  I agree with Beasley though.

IMO, there's a lot more scouting work needed for guys other than Williams.

 

If Williams is there, you take him.  Simple.

 

If he's gone, ...then it becomes a much, MUCH tougher decision.

 

So, they've got to prepare as if he's not going to be there.

Is there something wrong with posting opinions about a player without actually "evaluating" them? I mean....this is after all a fans forum board. KY has an opinion..right or wrong doesn't matter its his opinion. He doesn't have to "evaluate" anyone to post here. Who cares if he doesn't know what he's talking about...no one does. I remember hearing Mike Mayock say that Trent Richardson was the safest pick in the draft a few years back...now look at him. I know you cant factor Marks coming back 100%. But with Odrick and even Ryan Davis, Abry and Ziggy you have quality guys who can rush from the inside. Williams shouldnt be the pick imo.

 

With a high pick like this take the best edge rusher on the board. Vic will be a pro bowl player and versatile, which is a huge bonus for Gus' system.

I agree with most of it.  I think if they want just the Leo, Beasley should be the pick and is the best edge rusher.  But if they want the best all around player and pass rusher, I think Fowler is the guy.  I think you could get more creative with Fowler and move him around much more as he can win with power or speed along with a variety of pass rush moves and create more miss matches.  I think our run D would also improve with Fowler on the field.  Fowler or Beasley will probably be the pick though if we dont trade back.

The part you bolded was a response to KY saying I had intentionally exaggerated his post. He said that I exaggerated him making an opinion after he posted an opinion about said players before he watched them for himself, simply put, he made those opinions without fully understanding what the players brought to the table.


Read the thread before you reply. Whomever can have whatever opinion they would like, what I was saying had nothing to do with KY's personal opinion, it had to do with him saying I exaggerated his posts.

I'm still voting for Dante Fowler but a player that does not get much recognition around here is Bud Dupree from Kentucky. The guy lit up the combine and his tape is pretty nice with some inconsistency issues here and there. He is 6'4 and 270 lbs. He ran a 4.56 40 with a 42" vert. I think he is made for the LEO position and is a way better fit in our defense than Vic Beasley.


Wouldn't be surprised if we pick him at 3.

He has great explosion, but he doesn't know how to use his hands, he doesn't have counter moves, and he doesn't have the ability to bend at all. UK did him no favors either, as they used him all over the place and he never got to master any one position. I have seen several sources that say he is just plain dumb too, and he reportedly only scored a 10 on the wonderlic.

I'm really not sold on Beasley. I don't like his size or his strength (I know he benched 225 38x but he doesn't play THAT strong). I really don't like how he plays vs the run and how tentative he is to lay a hit on somebody other than the qb. So I really don't think he is that much better as a football player as of right now. 3 years down the road it can be a totally different story.


Dupree really doesn't know what he's doing as of yet with his hands but that can be coached. He also presents a great amount of versatility and his get off is insane and is the second best in the class next to ray. I also think Dupree has a way higher ceiling than Beasley.
