2015 Mock Drafts

Quote:Football Outsiders March 27, 2015 article on Offensive Lines 2014 season
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol

Shows why the Jaguars fans shouldnt be suprised if the first two rounds go towards Offensive Linemen

They ranked last in pass protection despite a highly paid Free Agent Zane Beadles, high 1st round pick in his 2nd year LT, and hyped up Center & Guard.

They did sign FA RT backup from Dallas but is that really enough to address one of the worst Offensive Lines in the NFL? Why at #3 overall should we as fans be expecting

a defensive edge rusher or WR as the pick?

If you compare Football Outsiders Defensive Line rankings for last season
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/dl

The Jaguars were 2nd overall in getting at the passer (bills were 1st) and 9th against the run (when grading only the defensive line)...

Maybe in a trade down. Not at #3.

GM Dave Caldwell has already stated that he is hoping to trade down if the right offer is presented, so that shouldnt shock us.

Drafttek released a new 7 round mock, so here we go(seems like their boards are getting closer to reality):

Rd 1: Leo Vic Beasley - It was either Fowler or Beasley here and I just prefer Beasley.

Rd 2: Slot WR/PR/KR - Phillip Dorsett - He is still my top return/slot guy.

Rd 3: MLB Benardrick McKinney - Pretty much the complete MLB. Can play the run and the pass and shows way too much value to pass in the 3rd round.

Rd 4: RB Duke Johnson- Again way too much value to pass on him in the 4th. He does come with some concerns, but in order to make the other picks I would take him.

Rd 5: OG Robert Myers - Could be a very good NFL guard. Would immediately add depth to a position where we have none and could even ouch Beadles for his starting role.

Rd 6: TE Nick Boyle - Has all the potential to be a good blocking TE to replace Lewis, plus possesses the traits to be a mismatch receiving threat behind Thomas.

Rd 7: OTTO Kyle Emmanuel - I know some are big on him and I am joining the train. We need linebacker depth and he seems to be a perfect fit behind Skuta with the potential to be a good starter down the line.

Using the same Drafttek draft board, my picks are:

Rd 1(3): Dante Fowler - DE - Florida

Rd 2(36): Maxx Williams - TE - Minnesota

Rd 3(67): Cody Prewitt - FS - Mississippi

Rd 4(103): T.J. Yeldon - RB - Alabama -

Rd 5(139): Jarvis Harrison - OLG - Texas A&M

Rd 6(179): Xavier Williams - DT - Northern Iowa

Rd 7(220): Kyle Emanuel - Otto LB - North Dakota State

Using draftsite.com

1. Dante Fowler LEO - We need to find our pass rusher this draft. Fowler should be that guy.

2. Dorial Green Beckam WR- We lack a true #1 WR. DGB's size and speed is too good to pass up despite the off field trouble. Pairing him with Robinson, Lee, Hurns, and Thomas gives Bortles all the weapons he needs.

3. Ameer Abudullah RB- Big time talent at RB. Continue to give Bortles as many weapons as possible.

4. Kurtis Drummond S - Josh Evans needs to go.

5. Alie Mopart G - Need some interior line depth.

6. Damarious Randall S- I've seen some people have him as a round 2 value all the way to undrafted. We need to find our FS so doubling up on the position wouldn't be the worst thing.

7. Davis Tull OTTO- Provides depth behind Skuta.

I'm using the Drafttek draft board for this. There are 2 different scenerios- #1 is with no trades. I have a hunch someone will want to move up for Mariota and if Tennessee does not take him (takes Williams), I project the Jets moving up and Jags get another 2nd rounder (if they want him badly enough this is possible, although I realize a 3rd may be more likely).

No trade scenario:

Rd. 1 (3) - Dante Fowler - Have a hunch we'd take him even if Williams is available,

2 (36) Erik Flowers- Jags want to improve run game and this guy will help do that as much as any 2nd round back available.

3 (67) Derron Smith- My favorite natural free safety. Would have taken Byron Jones in 2nd, but just missed him.

4 (103) David Johnson- Bradley and staff coached him at Senior Bowl and consider this a steal.

5 (139) Jarvis Harrison- Very talented, but underachiever in college. Marrone will "coach him up." More depth and competition on O.Line.

       6 (180) E.J. Bibbs - Tight end to develop.

7 (220) Antwan Goodley- Can make team as slot receiver. Would have liked receiver earlier in draft, but believe 2nd year players will improve.

Trade with Jets:

Rd. 1 (6) Vic Beasley (unless Fowler still there)

       2 (36) Erik Flowers

2 (37) Denzell Perryman - Love this player. Can learn from Poz and be our MLB of future.

       3-7 Same as above.

Using the same draft boards, assume the Eagles give up Pick 19 (trade of Bradford to Browns) Pick 20 and Pick 84 (Rd 3) plus 2016 Rd 2 selection.

Who do the Jags take?

36. Shaq Thompson

67. Bernardrick McKinney

104. Duke Johnson

139. Garret Grayson

Listening to Kiper and McShay today on ESPN, to me I get the feeling from them and pretty much every other site and source that their is about a 99% chance that Mariota is #2 off the board whether the Titans take him or take a trade for him. Have these experts been wrong before, yes. I do however believe that Winston and Mariota will go 1-2. It seems unlikely that we will be receiving any trade offers at least for a QB and I doubt anybody trades for any other player.

It is possible a team like Atlanta, desperate for a pass rush, might be interested in trading up for Fowler.

In which case we could take Beasley at 8, or the best WR available from Cooper or White.

QBs aren't the only ones who get traded for...

But if Winston and Mariota go 1, 2... That just leaves the Jags with a great problem, be forced to choose between their BAP or take a trade and probably get even more value from the draft.

So if Leonard Williams and Dante Fowler are both staring you in the face. Who do you take?

That's possible. The Falcons HC Dan Quinn coached Fowler while at UF. Could look to team up again.

I could answer this question 1000 times and would probably give a 500/500 split. Personally, I think Williams is such a stud and can't miss prospect that I would select him and hope we can find a quality LEO candidate later in the draft or the following year. I just don't see how you pass on Williams.

I think you pass on Williams because the pass rusher is a top need, while interior dline is not.

Stud pass rushers will be harder to find later in the draft.

Good interior Dline should be available in any round.

Just my thought process on it.

Fowler in round 1

and any DT later in the draft, round 2-5

is a better combo than

Williams in the first and a pass rushing DE/OLB tweener "LEO" later

If the quarterbacks do go 1 and 2 and the Jags can't trade, this is my draft based on Drafttek:

Rd. 1 (3) Leonard Williams

2 (36) Eli Harold - This guy can rush the passer very effectively. He and Williams great combo.

3 (67) Jay Ajayi - Best running back on board.

4 (104)Demarius Randall- Doubt he'll still be on board, but Drafttek disagrees.

       5. (139)Jarvis Harrison- Marrone will bring out the best in this guy. Will initially be backup on line, but eventual starter.

6 (180) Nick Boyle- Will make opening day roster as backup tight end after Lewis is traded on draft day for another 6th rounder.

6 (?) Max Garcia- backup guard or center.

       7. Antwan Goodley- slot receiver. Would have like one earlier, but no value until here. Jags will pick up veteran free agent receiver.

I tend to see the opposite.

Get the cant miss prospect. Find a pass rusher who will get one on one.

I think Eli Harold could be a strong LEO candidate in round 2. I also think Nate Orchard could be a good one in round 2 or maybe even still there in 3. I don't think leaving the 1st round without a LEO necessarily means not getting a high quality one. I think I have officially decided I prefer the "can't miss" Williams than what some would consider forcing Fowler.

I think Fowler is more of a "cant miss" than Williams. I dont see Williams as a cant miss. We shall see. I think the media has Williams higher than teams boards
