Chargers considering trade up for Mariota?
|
Caldwell needs impact players on this team. I think the odds in this year's draft drops off considerably beyond the top 10 players for an impact one. At 17, the premium edge rushers and wide receivers are likely gone.

At 17, the premium edge rushers and wide receivers are likely gone. To trade down without dropping out of the top 10, we would have to call the Bears. The Jets have no reason to trade up for a quarterback and the Rams just got an upgrade from the Eagles. The Redskins are keeping RG3 and Colt McCoy for next season. If the Bears don't want to trade Jay Cutler - and I can't figure out if there is any truth to that rumor - staying in the top 10 will require staying put unless somebody wants to trade up for a wide receiver or pass rusher.
Quote:Even if the Chargers were willing to make this trade, I don't think that the Chargers # 1 in 2015 and # 1 in 2016 would be enough to satisfy the Jaguars. The Chargers probably would have to add a 2nd Round pick in the trade, with the possibility they would get back a Day 3 pick. My initial reaction was to think of the RG3 trade (3 1st rounders and 2nd in exchange for the 2nd overall pick IIRC). A drop from 3 to 17 is really really really far. I was thinking getting back: 17th pick this year 2015 2nd round 2016 1st round 2016 2nd round 2016 3rd round 2017 2nd round
Rumors are continuing to swirl:

If the Titans make that trade, they will be firing the coach and GM within two years. Everyone seems to have forgotten how awful Rivers was for a couple of seasons there, and at 33, he could return to that form at any time.
Rivers is a nice QB. But hard to overlook (and sort of amazing) that in six of the last seven years, the Chargers have gone 7-9, 8-8 or 9-7. How much better would he really make them?

Both QBs should be off the board by 6 at the latest.

Once again we are at three.
Once again we are in a very good position in the draft. Perhaps not the ideal place...but a very good position. One of two things happens. A. Winston and Mariota go 1-2 and if the Jaguars have evaluated the talent and ranked the boards correctly, they should have their pick of the best non QB in the draft on either side of the ball.We select that guy and improve the team; or B. One of the two QBs falls, the demand for the remaining QB gets even more fevered, some desperate team offers a nice load of draft choices, we trade down, select several guys and, if the Jaguars have evaluated the talent and ranked the boards correctly, improve the team. I like it. That said, barring a trade down that results in gaining some other team's first round pick next year, I want the Jaguars to draft no higher than 22-23 next year. I'm ready for the team to win. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:42 Yep, Gabbert blew away all the other QBs on those lists with his wonderlic knowledge. According to the Rule of 26-27-60 he just needed 1 more college start to be a successful QB in the NFL. Who could have known that??????? Now that same rule has Brandon Weedon and Christian Ponder with passing grades, so take that for what it's worth.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
Quote:Yep, Gabbert blew away all the other QBs on those lists with his wonderlic knowledge. The Wonderlic is pretty pointless unless you're results are extreme one way or another. Aka guys like Vince Young. I don't know why they still use it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
