QB for week 9
|
With Peyton on a bye, I need to start someone else. Should I go with...
Jake Locker at Rams or Jason Campbell vs Ravens? I was planning to start Locker for a couple weeks now, but after watching the Rams D on MNF I suddenly think that's a bad idea. Other options are Geno Smith, Case Keenum, Josh McCown and Joe Flacco, but I'm thinking Campbell is my best FA option this week.

Replies are welcome. I have two hours to make my decision final...
Do I keep Locker against and start him coming off a bye week in St. Louis against an aggressive Rams pass rush, or waive him and bank on Campbell in a short week having another productive game for the Browns at home vs the Ravens?

I'd stay away from anyone playing that St. Louis pass rush. I know that probably doesn't help a whole lot, but there ya go.

Thanks guys. So far I've stuck with Locker, although Campbell was not picked up so I probably could still make the change up until game time if I change my mind.
Anyone else? Also, I need to decide who to bench between RB Mike Tolbert (presuming Jonathan Stewart returns), WR Jarrett Boykin (presuming James Jones returns) and WR Dexter McCluster. I also have RB James Starks set to start as the Packers are talking about increasing his workload after last week. Plus I'm starting WR Kendall Wright presuming I've made the right call with Locker and that both will have a big day. This bye week has hit me hard. A few weeks ago I traded away Anquan Boldin and Andre Ellington to keep from having so many players on a bye that I wouldn't be able to even fill out my roster. Still I have Peyton Manning, Eric Decker, Frank Gore and Vernon Davis on a bye. At TE this week I recently picked up the Seahawks Zach Miller vs the Bucs, although other TE options include Coby Fleener, Zach Ertz, Delanie Walker, Dallas Clark and Scott Chandler.

Quote:Thanks guys. So far I've stuck with Locker, although Campbell was not picked up so I probably could still make the change up until game time if I change my mind. Case Keenum made his first start on the road and had the highest passer rating vs the Cheifs defense this season.. and that was with 2 dropped passes that would've been TDs. They make those catches and he would've had 3 TDs (0 picks) and 300+ passing yards. Houston's running backs are also banged up, so I expect to see a lot of passing attempts. Just something to think about. This week he's playing at home on SNF.. it's always good to have that ace in the hole late starter.
I'd give McCown some consideration if you're looking for a bye week fill-in only. He's up against a D that's been inconsistent thus far, and has the feel of a sleeper to him. One of those "nothing to lose" guys who aren't going to get another shot at a starting job and they know it, so they're not afraid to take shots that a younger QB might avoid in hopes of not giving teams lots of footage of him throwing picks.
Thanks guys. I kind of feel like I need to give Locker the benefit of the doubt as he's really been sharp every time he's played. Keenum, McCown and Campbell are all intriguing this week, but their body of work simply isn't enough to give me confidence.
Right now my bigger questions revolve around who to bench. James Jones has been limited in practice all week, and his playing appears to be a game time decision. Earlier in the week he seemed more probable to play which had me benching Boykin, but now I'm not so sure that he's the right call. But to start Boykin I'd have to bench Dexter McCluster who had a breakout game for the Chiefs last week, and over the past few weeks seems to have developed a bit of chemistry with Alex Smith. So who to start at WR between Boykin and McCluster has been a huge question for me. Also, I'm looking at my RB situation and would really like to pick up Jonathan Stewart, only I'm not sure who I really have to waive to make that happen. There's no guarantee that Stewart will storm out of the gates in his first start this week playing alongside a somewhat gimpy DeAngelo Williams, but I'd like to already have him on my roster, and possibly starting, just in case he does. Should I forget about a guy like Boykin or McCluster to get Stewart? Or should I waive one of my RBs. I have the Panthers other RB, Mike Tolbert starting as he'll continue in his role as the 3rd downs and goal line RB having scored 4 TDs over the past three weeks, and then I have James Starks who the Packers are saying they intend to give more touches too behind a Packers OL that is quite frankly dominating the line of scrimmage as of late. The only other player I might be able to waive for Stewart is Roddy White, but I've been carrying him for several weeks now, and he should be just about ready for a healthy return. Any insight you can provide on Boykin vs McCluster, or on possibly obtaining Jonathan Stewart given my roster depth, would be appreciative.

You can chalk this post up to "Homerism" if you want to.. people on this board said the same thing when I told them to start Arain Foster in their league before his debut game.
Case Keenum while being a UDFA is a legit threat and you asked for a one week starter to get you through the bye. I'm here telling you he's the guy to pick up. Everybody in Houston knew he was the guy before the season even started.. We only needed Schaub to fall on his face (which sadly we rooted for) for it to happen (and it did) to force Kubiak's stubburn hand. Quote:"Keenum has easily been the choice of the fans since camp," said Houston radio host Lance Zierlein [Sports Talk 790]. "As soon as Schaub showed signs of failing, they wanted to go past Yates. They were especially excited by the big plays. He had six passes over 25 yards. Schaub had six in the previous five games." How many bonus points do you get for big passing plays? Because that's what Keenum will give you and he's a hell of a lot better than Locker (He can actually throw a consistent accurate pass) and looks to make plays down field.. he's the real deal. At the very least you need to add him as a backup QB. But I'll be labeled a homer for saying this.. If you don't start him, you'll wish you did. ![]() Quote:With Peyton on a bye, I need to start someone else. Should I go with...Oh man, Yuck.

Jesus Christ .. I hope you didn't go with Jake locker. He's got to be giving you close to "0" points right now. Jake Locker sucks

You did... 29 points for Case... 10 points for Locker... and I lose the week because of this.
Campbell even got 25 points.

I also could have had Nick Foles... dude got over 45 points.
Heck, even Christian Ponder or Joe Flacco would have been a much better choice than Locker this week. I'm pulling out my hair over this.

I had Stafford on bye and vick injured. I was gonna choose between foles and keenum. I put foles in Saturday night. Talking about a good decision he got me 72 points! I'm at 185 for the game and still have lacy tonight.

I wish I had Foles. He's even available as a free agent.
Locker is playing us this week so he probably does much better, but my qb is Peyton Manning, and I learned my lesson about benching him when I benched him week one. The Broncos are at the Chargers this week, so I feel confident starting Peyton. Really my at qb is this... Do I try to replace Locker with Nick Foles or Case Keenum? Or do I simply waive Locker and stick with Peyton as my only qb knowing the other qb is on the bench all year unless Peyton actually does get hurt? I have a similar question at TE knowing I have Vernon Davis and don't plan to sit him the rest of the year either. I also plan to waive McCluster. Chiefs WRs are nothing but headaches for me. I started Bowe the first few weeks only to watch him get me like 3 or 4 points each week. I ended up trading him for Eric Decker who has worked out much better for me. Later on I picked up Donnie Avery and started him only to watch him get me negative points, and then last week I picked up and started McCluster only to watch him get me 1/2 point. Meanwhile, I'm trying to decide if it's even worth still hanging onto Trent Richardson who got me a whopping 5 points last nights. I waived Doug Martin several weeks ago, so the only other RBs on my roster are Frank Gore, James Starks and Mike Tolbert.

Quote:I played Rodgers. Ugh... Oh no! That's harsh, but there was no way to know. Who are you starting next week? Since there's not a ton of names worth picking up in free agency, I figure I'll hang onto a backup QB just in case Peyton does get hurt. I currently have Jake Locker who got me a whopping 10 points last week, although he does have an attractive schedule going forward. Other option are Nick Foles who just tied the TD passing record vs the Raiders, but with Vick just about at full health there's no guarantee Nick will start the rest of the season. Then I still have Case Keenum as an option or Jay Cutler whose owner cut him loose the day he got hurt, and really I think it's down to these two. Cutler is expected to start this week vs the Lions unless he has a set-back, and he for sure starting after that. Since Peyton is healthy, whoever I get is definitely sitting on my bench week 10. Case of course had a monster game throwing it up to Andre Johnson, but can he keep it going as teams quickly gather tape on him? Cutler also has a very attractive schedule, and he's good for right about 20 points every week practically guaranteed.
