Are the pass rushers in this draft really BAP? They all seem meh...

#1

None of these guys including Fowler seem like elite pass rushers and in any other draft they would be drafted much later in the first round. Additionally, it seems like the only reason a lot of the guys on radio or on the boards want a pass rusher is because it's a need. I agree it's a need, but I just don't like this crop at all...too tweenerish.

In my opinion I think Amari Cooper would be a much more impactful player right away and that he would instantly upgrade a major part of our offense. He's also much more productive at his position than any of the pass rushers at their positions.

I'd love to hear thoughts...

Agreed, except for Beasley, who has proven production.

Beasley was looking like a top 10 lock last year as well, before he surprisingly returned to finish his degree.

He is also the all time ACC sacks leader despite arriving on campus as a TE and moving to LB before DE. Not sure it gets more productive than breaking the all time conference sack record in basically 2.5 seasons.

Overall, I think this draft is void of truly elite level draft prospects, including the QBs, WRs, DEs and every other position.

Quote:\too tweenerish.

Also, as has been explained plenty of times now too...tweener isn't some negative thing (at least not in today's NFL), as the seismic shift toward hybrid defenses and specialist offenses has proven.

Hey we have this guy named Darren Sproles, he isn't quite a RB but isn't quite a WR...I just don't think it's gonna work out. Hey coach there's this guy named Jimmy Graham (or Julius Thomas), he isn't quite a TE but he isn't quite a WR either...I think we're gonna have to look elsewhere. Hey some dude named Von Miller is here, he isn't quite an OLB but he isn't quite a traditional RDE either...I think we should pass on him. Obviously you could go on and on...

Telvin Smith played under 220 last season and finished out the year strong. If the guy can produce who cares if he's a "tweener"? I love Cooper but Beasley is a really good prospect too.

Von Miller has made a nice career as a "tweener". So has Elvis Dumervil, Justin Houston, Demarcus Ware, Terrell Suggs and Cameron Wake just to name a few.

If there was one draft to get a guy at the LEO position and to solidify it for the next ten years then this is the draft. We haven't had a 10+ sack a year guy since Tony Brackens. I'm tired of not being able to end drives on third and long. I'm tired of opposing QBs being able to eat lunch while standing in the pocket. We need that guy on our defense that the opposing offense has to game plan for again. You want to really help Bortles? Then get a guy who will get the opposing offense off the field and will give the Jags offense more opportunities.

I really wish Bosa was in this draft. Buccaneers take Winston. Titans do whatever stupidity they do. We take Bosa. Good Luck, Luck.

When I draft a player top 3 as a pass rusher he damn well better be a strong, powerful, and quick rushing end and none of these guys are that. None of them. Rarely do you see any of them completely whoop an offensive lineman. They only way they win is on pure athleticism. These guys don't seem too much better than someone like Dion Jordan coming out of college.

Bosa was way too inconsistent last season for me to anoint him yet.

Not really fair to say that because if Dion Jordan didn't have his drug and work ethic problems (along with being used terribly by the Phins obviously) he might have turned out as well as expected.

If Dave wants to go BAP, to me there is no doubt it is Cooper.

Lags was gushing about Shane Ray "exploding off the line of scrimmage" from the game tape he's watched.

JJ Watt didn't look like an elite pass rusher when he came out. If we redid that draft today, he would go #1.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Instead of drafting a pass rusher to get there in time, why would we not take Trae Waynes. True No.1 Corner to bolster our pass defense and then maybe if the corners could stay with their man more than three seconds the players we have now can get the sack within 5 seconds.

I believe this is who we should honestly take. I know people will moan and groan about it but at least its a new perspective from the pass rusher angle. Say the bears trade up with us, we pick Trae at no.7, we grab telvin Coleman or Yeldon at 34. And get a pass rusher with chicagos second rounder.

Lets hear it..

I think top of round two for Coleman and Yeldon may be a bit high.

I also thought of the possibility of drafting a CB in round 1, but that would be in a trade back like you explained.  I think if we trade into the teens, that's a strong possibility... Maybe a Jalen Collins from LSU.

We were mocked constantly at either Couples or Prince. But we didn't get Watt, we got Blaine Sad

This is Caldwells sentiment too. He said he didn't care about Gregory's weight as long as he can get to the quarterback. I really think Gregory was the pick until he popped positive again.

Beasely is next man up and is a total stud. All the other pass rushers besides Beasely are meh and not worth the third pick. I like Dupree in a trade down scenario but he's still not as good as Beasely.

Ha..I and others wanted nothing to do w Dion Jordan last year. He couldn't and still can't hold Beasely's jock strap...to be fair they are using him wrong but still...

This is the modern NFL. You have to look at scheme fits, and to summarily dismiss the pass rushers in this class as Dion Jordan tells me you don't know anything about football.
