<div>A "number of teams" have red flagged Boise State RB Jay Ajayi's knee when reviewing medical checks, according to Tony Pauline.
Thee knee injury (which was described as "shredded") occurred during an attempted theft when Ajayi was 18 years old after just moving to the U.S. for football. Beat writer Chadd Cripe once said "The injury on the field was so bad that coaches wondered if he'd recover." Pauline's report is worth keeping in mind during draft weekend, especially if Ajayi stays on the board longer than expected. Apr 20 - 12:43 PM

This is the first I've heard of this. If his knee is a concern long term, I can't imagine him going before the 4th round.

Good question, it might be one of those situation where teams dont know for sure how long it will hold up, I dont think he had any big issues in college, he will def slip if we dont get a RB earlier he would be worth a mid round pick

So this happened when he was 18, played 3 years on it without any concerns, and now people are saying its "shredded"? Me thinks its possible a team is putting out an unfavorable report in hopes of him possibly falling in the draft.

I mean its 10 days before the draft. Any "bad" news or "good" news that is circulating around needs to be taken with a grain of salt at this point.

Does seem kind of strange, seems like this kind of info usually comes out at the combine. Although a couple years back Jesse Williams from AL had an injury that dropped him in the draft and IIRC, it wasn't reported until he started to slide in the draft.

Being that it isn't a new injury,   I'm confident that the teams that have interest in Jay Ajayi have all of the necessary medical information on him to have formed an educated opinion on his knee situation.

I find the term "shredded" to describe a knee very interesting. I don't think I've ever heard of that nor can I even think of how a knee could be shredded.


Just a weird situation this close to the draft. Wouldn't mind spending a day 3 pick on him now.

Especially in this draft where there is tons of talent at RB, no one is going to grab a RB with a shredded knee in day 1 or 2.

Good point, a team isn't going to believe a bogus report when their doctors have done their own eval

Yea but some doctors have different evaluations, like when players get 2nd opinions, some GMs might freak out and think  their doctors were wrong and pass, this is why misinformation is thrown around all the time.

Of course. But each team's doctor can have varying opinions on how severe an injury really is. One may consider him undraftable while another is unmoved by the reports. Again its silly season. Whatever you hearing from this point shouldn't be scrutinized heavily.

I'll agree with anything at this point should be scrutinized heavily.  This "report" could just very well be exaggeration.

I don't know what "shredded" knee is (LOL), but DeJuan Blair, who was a highly productive PF/C in college basketball fell in the 2nd round of the NBA draft because he does not have an ACL...on either leg.

 

He's still playing in the NBA as a role player, and really hasn't had any trouble with the injury.

Updating a previous item, the agent for Boise State RB Jay Ajayi says his client did not attend the Combine medical recheck last weekend.

Prospects with medical concerns are annually told to attend the Combine medical recheck. Agent Eric Burkhardt says Ajayi was not told to attend, which suggests NFL teams are comfortable with the condition of his knee despite reports to the contrary. As we originally suspected, the concern over Ajayi's knee appears to have been overblown, and may have been disseminated as a "smokescreen" by clubs hoping Ajayi falls to them in the draft.

LOL thats why this surprised me I didnt hear anything about him going to the rechecks, but I just guessed it was missed in the reports, yup its lying season
