PFT reporting the Jags torn between Cooper and Fowler

#1

Quote:It’s believed by some that the Jaguars are torn between Fowler and receiver Amari Cooper. The thinking is that coach Gus Bradley wants Fowler, and that G.M. Dave Caldwell wants Cooper.

Meh. I'm thinking the decision has already been made.

I am torn between them too... both are great athletes that appear to be NFL ready ... Cooper is more of a need since they signed Odrick, Tyson Alualu and Skuta and they have Chris Clemons & Branch.. so he could go to those positions but its not a huge need like WR is...

If you beleive the stuff they say... GM Dave Caldwell said he has no true #1 WR on the team.. then let Cecil Shorts III go in free agency & didnt sign a big WR star in FA only a special teamer guy....

so Cooper would make the most sense at #3 for the Jaguars based on Dave's speeches.

If it isn't Williams, Cooper, or Fowler I'll be surprised. I don't think they will, or will be able to, trade down.

I am shocked that Gus would want Fowler over Williams assuming both QBs are gone by #3rd overall pick..

Dave has and always will be a needs drafter despite whatever smokescreen he throws at a luncheon. Williams doesn't fill a need. At least not in Caldwell's eyes.

im guessing theyre leaking that kind of thought process on purpose.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

I mean they were out playing baseball yesterday not hashing it out in the war room.

Dave said Friday that they we would be ready to draft that day.

It seems to me that the media has got bad lately at reporting their speculation as fact. I wish they would report facts... It's too easy to say "oh, I got a source that says..." When in reality they are basically saying "I think this might happen...".

If we pass on Williams we will regret it later imo

Meanwhile Mark Long sounds confident it will not be Fowler.

Truth is, nobody outside a handful of Jaguar employees knows.

Personally, I think this is the most important pick of Caldwell's tenure as GM. If this one doesn't pan out immediately, I could see Khan going in a different direction.

I think passing on Williams would be a huge mistake, but I'm not GM, but play one on the message board.

To be fair, Fowler won't fill that need either.

This is kinda silly, there is no more important pick than the QB. Bortles pick is more important than every other pick he has made thus far combined.

I disagree. When you pick in the top 3 for 3 years in a row and your win total doesn't change, that is a concern. This is a HUGE year for the staff and GM, IMO.

And then Mark Long tweets this...

Prisco is insane. If we wanted K. White, we could find a suitor in the top 10 who wanted Williams or Fowler at 3 and acquire additional picks.

It's a huge year, but it's all in Bortles' hands. If he takes the leap Dave and Gus are perfectly safe no matter what happens with this draft class. If Bortles doesn't take the leap then there could be some very warm seats no matter what happens tonight. It's all on Blake.

I'm in the camp that thinks this will be Clemons last year. So it very well might be.

Positionally yes he could physically fill the LEO spot, but I was moreso making a subversive swipe implying Fowler won't fill the high impact pass rusher need.
