Pretty sure someone else posted the origin of the word Redskin. 

Rachel, I will try to find a previous thread about this on the old board. I had a lot of articles and stats about this posted. Some 85% or so of native Americans wanted the Redskins name to stay. If the vast majority of them want it, why should there be an uproar?

 

People like to complain, and this gives them a reason is my only conclusion.

It is a word, and for the most part the only people that can really hurt me with words are the people I love.

 

It will be changed in a matter of time. We are a society that will award millions to someone that burns themselves with hot coffee after ordering hot coffee (too hot). Anyway, that is off topic, the discussion isn't about what atrocities happened a long time ago, and in the grand scheme of horrible things we as humans have done to each other :blink:  ... hmmm, I'm not sure I can put a level, or assign a number level on an offense. (sorry, I will get back on topic)

I really do respect the name Redskins in a very honorable way. I don't know why that is so hard to believe. Never in my life have I felt any other way, and I can't fathom that there aren't millions that feel the same way.

I was listening to a radio show yesterday and they had the leader of the Onida, (apologize if spelling incorrect, going strictly off how it sounded). He said his tribe liked the term redskin, and embraced it. This was not far off a post I had in older threads regarding this and some of the articles and numbers I posted.
