Redskins name change
|
Quote:Pretty sure someone else posted the origin of the word Redskin.Rachel, I will try to find a previous thread about this on the old board. I had a lot of articles and stats about this posted. Some 85% or so of native Americans wanted the Redskins name to stay. If the vast majority of them want it, why should there be an uproar? People like to complain, and this gives them a reason is my only conclusion.

Your Saints comment is typical of those who tend to trivialize an issue by being nonsensical. You can just say you don't think they ought to change the name.

If they want an accurate name for a Washington team, call them the Over Paid Inept Bureaucrats.
It rolls off the tongue, too. Quote:If they want an accurate name for a Washington team, call them the Over Paid Inept Bureaucrats. touche
I think we should be more worried about how Native Americans feel about the name then how non Native Americans feel about the name.

Quote:I think we should be more worried about how Native Americans feel about the name then how non Native Americans feel about the name. Does it belong to them? It is a word, and for the most part the only people that can really hurt me with words are the people I love. It will be changed in a matter of time. We are a society that will award millions to someone that burns themselves with hot coffee after ordering hot coffee (too hot). Anyway, that is off topic, the discussion isn't about what atrocities happened a long time ago, and in the grand scheme of horrible things we as humans have done to each other  ... hmmm, I'm not sure I can put a level, or assign a number level on an offense. (sorry, I will get back on topic) Okay, not really BOT History of a word: Ugh = let's kill that for dinner. Uggh = I drag you to my cave. Uugh = look at rock roll, how does rock roll? Uuggh = flat rock not roll. Ugg = fire UGGHHH = fire burn. And today Ugg = Offensive Boots I really do respect the name Redskins in a very honorable way. I don't know why that is so hard to believe. Never in my life have I felt any other way, and I can't fathom that there aren't millions that feel the same way.

I was listening to a radio show yesterday and they had the leader of the Onida, (apologize if spelling incorrect, going strictly off how it sounded). He said his tribe liked the term redskin, and embraced it. This was not far off a post I had in older threads regarding this and some of the articles and numbers I posted.

Time for them to become the Washington Redtape.

They asked for more political correctness and this option is both political and correct! I guess some folks ought to be careful for what they wish for!
Quote:If they want an accurate name for a Washington team, call them the Over Paid Inept Bureaucrats. Then the players would find that name offensive. Being associated with Congress?
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
