I think you are going a little overboard with this.  Brady did what other good QBs did to us back then.  Many short passes that exposed our zone scheme.

 

I get that.  I have the game on Blu-Ray in fact, though I haven't watched it in 8 years and am sketchy on certain details.  I remember Matt Jones and Dennis Northcutt dropping catchable balls in the end zone, and us settling for FGs instead of TDs in the 2nd half.  I don't remember the turnovers but 1 was an INT by Rodney Harrison. 

 

Since one of the major differences in the outcome involved Jaguars WRs dropping TD catches using a regulation football, versus Patriots receivers dropping almost nothing all night with a deflated ball, how can you say it's going overboard to examine it?  Throwing and catching is essential to success, they were using A DIFFERENT BALL to throw and catch with, and amazingly they had more success throwing and catching that night. 

 

Without the drops, the score would have been 28-28 in the 4th quarter.  Still doesn't matter?  How about take away maybe 3-6 catches the Pats would have dropped if they used a regulation ball?  Stall a few of those scoring drives and it changes the game, eh?  Or add in a Patriot turnover or even two if they use a regulation ball.  Lots of ways it could have effected the outcome.  I will review the game looking at specific plays, especially Jag turnovers and Patriot non-turnovers - hits on the QB, etc that might have been turnovers without the rigged ball, any "miracle" catches by the Patriots, etc. 

 

To say a rigged ball could not (or even did not) affect the outcome is naive.  One of the things about NFL that has not changed through the decades is a high winning percentage for the team winning the turnover battle.  The Patriots cheated and as a result reduced their turnovers about 40% compared to the rest of the league.  It doesn't matter?  Are you kidding?

Every team cheats. Every QB alters the ball in some fashion or another. Remember Brad Johnson admitted to paying off ball boys to alter his balls. The thing is though to not get caught. The team and/or player that gets caught has to be made an example of.

The statistics bare this line of thinking out. If for the past six years, they have had half of the league average in fumbles, then it follows they are the only ones systematically cheating.


Who they are and their dynasty needs to be questioned.

One word, which is grossly underused and one I have a personal affinity for, explains why: Vainglory.

 

Our key playoff losses against the Patriots notwithstanding, one of the main reasons I dislike that entire franchise is the aura of arrogance that surrounds everything Patriot-related like flies swarm Pigpen. How are we to measure them at all when they don't use the same ball as the rest of the league?  The Patriots are an orange to compare with 31 apples.  The Patriots play deflateball while the other teams play football.

I'd rather play them without Brady. We've never beaten him in our 5 meetings in history, and I'm tired of losing to the Patriots.

They're a great team who got a slight edge from cheating. They deserved to be punished, but there's an overreaction to how much this actually helped them.

Do we know that for sure? The NFL tried to push this under the rug until after the big game. I'm almost positive the same obviously compromised process used for the afc championship was used for the Super Bowl. I'd imagine those same equipment managers were handling Brady's balls (heh) for that game too.

they beat Seattle in the super bowl because Seattle called the worst play in SB history. Let's not act like they put a colossal butt whooping on them.


Plus I would think its a lot easier to win one game NOT cheating than it is to lose several games while you're cheating.
