I love the hate Goodell gets.  If he suspended him 1 game we'd have the same threads complaining about how it wasn't long enough from some.  Could you imagine if it was none?  We'd hear about how the Patriots have him in their pocket and he is Kraft's boy.

 

He gives them a pretty harsh sentence because they decided not to go along with the investigation fully, and people like you guys want to call it the WWE.

 

The guy is literally in a no win situation.....and I would imagine he doesn't care because he's making boat loads of cash for it.  I wouldn't care.

This is a situation that would, and arguably should have been avoided had they ensured no foul play.  Which, they had the opportunity and means to do so.

 

They chose not to.  They pottied the bed, and it's theirs to sleep in.  Rather than prevent the behavior, they simply allowed it to happen.

 

Now it's a mess that's only getting bigger.  One that again - key point, could have and should have been avoided.

If Brady decides to take this matter to court one thing I haven't heard considered would be the likely possibility that the ball boys would be subject to be called to go on stand, under oath, to discuss their involvement in the matter. Would Brady's camp and the NFLPA be willing to take that risk? I don't see the ball boys risking their freedom to lie and protect some guy that probably doesn't give a damn about them.

Well duh, any time someone secretly take balls into the men's room they are obviously just checking to make sure they are inflated or deflated within regulation. No one does something in secret to cheat. Come on now!

 

It's probably safe to say something was getting relieved in the men's room, be it NFL footballs or something else.

Does anyone think Kraft would actually follow through on his threats to out everyone? Seems like he'd be shooting his own cash cow in the hind quarters. Plus unless he has actual physical proof, who is going to take him serious considering the boiling pot of poo he's sitting in right now.


I wonder if the NFL could do like the NBA did to that one owner and kick him to the curb if he starts making trouble?

 

That and it opens up the potential for libel, and I wouldn't be surprised if Kraft would be hit with some penalties should the accusations prove false.

The Patriots' rebuttal to the Wells Report is essentially a rehash of the pack of lies told to NFL Security and Wells during interviews.  Wells and Goodell did not believe the testimony then and won't believe it now.  Some of it is just idiotic, like the idea that Tom Brady is such a great guy, he was just helping his friend Jastremski deal with the media scrutiny.  That's why he called him 6 times and invited him to the QB room.  The problem is, Jastremski was never made available to the media.  He only had to deal with investigators.  So, any "advice" Brady gave was about how to deceive the investigators.  It certainly does not require 6 phone calls to urge Jastremski to tell the truth.

 

Now Goodell has decided to hear the appeal himself rather than hand it off.  Excellent.  I hope he upholds the full suspension and double dog dares Brady to file suit in Big Boy court - where there's this thing called "discovery" - all emails, texts, and phone calls will be subpoenaed, Tom.  And we will reopen the question of ball tampering in previous games and seasons.  Still wanna play hardball, Tom?  Or would that be too hard to grasp?

You're right, I read the report and I've read the Patriots response.  It's very clear that they are lying and that something was done.

 

Why would I step back and look at the big picture now when I was able to make a reasonable conclusion based on the information provided?

 

They tested the balls before the game. Were they supposed to test them every 5 minutes before the game started, and every 10 minutes during the game?  Why is the league tasked with ensuring they don't cheat more often than they do for every other team?  Why are we blaming the league for their cheating?!

Goodell handling the appeal is pretty dumb, but its also something the players agreed to in the bargaining process.  Really really dumb to accept this.

 

I can not see them taking this to court and risking lying under oath.  If they were to take it to court they would supoena all the text records for many many people within the organization.  Would they want that out there?  Doubt it.

Lying to an investigation that has no legal jurisdiction is easy....lying to a grand jury or under oath is a completely different scenario.

 

I think it was Frangie (who piggy backed from someone else) said that Tom Brady should just come out and admit it.  He liked the balls at a certain psi, and didn't think it was a big deal across the league and that maybe it was even common practice.  Bite the bullet and move on.  At this point the Patriots have become an even bigger joke than when this first came out.

Are the police, at times, not to be trusted? Yes.


Does that exonerate the criminal that commits a crime? Never.

Well then if that is the case, why in the heck did he wait this long to come out with that explanation of his nickname "the Deflator"?

 

He should have said that day one, not that anyone would have believed it, but at least it wouldn't look like something some lawyer came up with as a weak excuse for calling himself "The Deflator", like it does now.

 

That's what lawyers do, they come up with reasons why something is what it is, no matter how ridiculous it sounds, when something puts their client in a negative light.
