NBA Draft

So it's right around the corner.

What are you Magic fans hoping for? WCS or that Croatian SG seems like good fits.

As for Philly, no idea what they could do. Could see Russell, either of the European guys or a trade down.

Sounds like Kristaps Porzingis is the pick for Orlando if he is there.

For those of you that follow college basketball and/ or the NBA Draft process closely,  how deep is the 2015 NBA Draft in terms of realistic expectations to get a quality starter?

There will be a drop off after the first few picks from what I've heard.

I think the top 5 are in a tier of their own as potential all-star players (Okafor, Towns, Russell, Mudiay, Porzingis). After those 5, you've got a dropoff IMO, but there are still some skilled role-players that could definitely start (Winslow, Johnson, Hezonja, Cauley-Stein).

Thanks,  Matt.

It will be interesting to see if there are any trades in the top 5 of the draft.

What type of player ( level ) do you think will be available at the end of Round 1 and the beginning of Round 2?

There are a handful of low-ceiling PF/C that will be going around that teams will utilize for backups/depth. Who are you a fan of?

It's been a long time since I was anything close to a hard core NBA fan.   When the Davidson Family owned the Pistons,  I was a casual Pistons fan.   With my dislike of the current ownership of the Pistons that goes well beyond basketball,   I now consider myself a casual Brooklyn Nets fan.

That lineup isn't making the playoffs in the West.

Probably not.

But would be more interesting to watch than last years junk.

Holding out hope for Love this year, and Westbrook after that.

Notice the short term contracts to come off the books when Kobe retires.

For the long term outlook of the franchise, they would be better off without Kobe. They are not winning anything with him and they are not going to try and do a total rebuild with him on the roster.

I would agree with this assessment as this is supposed to be Kobe's last year.

I would not mind him getting the Jeter treatment this season as he moved up the points list and rides into the sunset.

That being said, his 25 Million will be off the books next year. Randle and Okafor will realistically be going into their second year (Randle was the Lakers Dante Fowler last year).

They would have enough cap room to sign 2 max players. One of them hopefully being Westbrook.

Clarkson is an ascending player as well. In fact, his game reminds me a lot of Westbrook (not saying he will turn out to be as good as him however).

The hot rumor at the moment is a 3-way trade between the Lakers, Kings, and Magic.

LA gets D.Cousins and the 6th pick

SAC gets Vucevic and the 5th

ORL gets the 2nd and then drafts Jahlil Okafor

I have been reading up on this.

It seems George Karl wants to trade Cousins but management does not want to.

Lakers have some obstacles to go through.

Legally the Lakers cant trade the #2 pick because they do not have a 2016 first round pick. It is against NBA policy to trade back to back first round picks.

That being said, Lakers would have to draft Okafor than the trade can go through.(this can still be done by agreeing to a trade in principle.

The Kings would also demand more than the quoted rumor. The Lakers will most likely have to give the Kings Julius Randle as well.

Most likely the trade is going to have to look like this;

Lakers get: DeMarcus Cousins

Kings get: Vucevic and Julius Randle #5 pick

Magic get: #2 pick (Okafor) #6 pick

So the Lakers move Randle and the 2nd pick to get Cousins?

Yeah, they would make out like bandits.

This would make more sense.  There is no way the Magic would give up Vucevic just to move up 3 slots.and draft Okafor as a replacement.  If the get #2 and #6, the replace Vuce with Okafor AND only move 1 slot down (to #6) from their original draft position.

I am not a big Okafor fan. If I was picking at 2 and Towns is gone, I would go D'angelo Russell.
