Donald Trump to run for president

Quote:Trump can say whatever he wants.  Being the frontrunner in July of 2015 is irrelevant.  The election isn't for another 15 1/2 months.  His frontrunner status will evaporate very quickly once it goes beyond name recognition and shock value and the campaign starts to get a little more serious.  Trump has about as good a chance of being the next nominee for the GOP as I do.
So when are you going to make your announcement?

He is right though. Getting captured doesn't make you a hero. We are too quick to label people heroes. People think Bruce Jenner is a hero for goodness sake.

Andrew Jackson was a war hero. Teddy Roosevelt was a war hero. Chris Kyle was a war hero.  John McCain was an American POW.

Regardless of whether you think is a war hero or not, it doesn't make him immune to criticism (which was why Trump brought it up). Democrats were saying the same things during the 2008 elections.

You might want to read up on his time in the camps before you discount his heroism that way.

It would be even more loony if Sarah Palin would enter the race.   It would be like one of those WWE battle royals.

Where is she when we need her?

I'm no fan of Senator McCain the politician, but this isn't the whole story. He was a high profile prisoner who was offered back to the US. He refused to go unless his fellow prisoners were also released. That makes him a hero in my book.

Trump brought it up because he likes people to think he's a man of the people who says what everyone thinks but is afraid to say. Judging from the audible response to his remarks and his lead early in the presidential race, he might be on to something.

Regardless of his political views and actions, to regard John McCain as anything but a hero is to reveal a lack of understanding of what he endured as a POW as opposed to what he could have done to gain freedom.

We agree very seldom buy yes. Questioning McCain here is just despicable IMO.

This is where you and I agree for the most part.  I believe that Donald Trump is just in it for the "shock value" of his comments.  Just pure speculation on my part, but I think that he knows that he has no realistic chance of getting the republican nomination much less getting the final vote for President.

However, there is possibly another side to this.  He can say what he wants and be as reckless as he wants, and doesn't have to worry about angering or alienating donors.  Because of this fact, he forces not only the republican candidates, but also the democrat candidates to respond to his comments.

I would guess that quite a few people share his beliefs regarding his comments as you pointed out, there was a very clear audible response regarding his comments.

Where I do agree with you 100%, Donald or anyone else can not say that John McCain is not a war hero.  As Trump said (paraphrasing) "he prefers the ones that weren't captured" or something like that.  If anyone want's to demean a pilot that is shot down (a very traumatic experience in itself), held as a prisoner of war and tortured, then that person has lost all of my respect and/or support.

So it's fine to attack his war service, and status as a war hero?  Really?

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

What makes him a Hero? He as captured? So were a lot of other Service men in that conflict. A lot of them never made it home

I was going to argue your point, but I figured I would do this instead.

Please give us a background on your service.

I come straight out and tell you I have none other than being an Air Force Brat. Not that I didn't try to enlist, but having a foot that was sliced in 2 by a lawn mower, no service wanted to take a chance on damaged goods

You know what?  I suspect that I know the answer to my above question.  I suspect that you "talk the talk" but never actually "walked the walk".

Disagree with Senator McCain's policy all you want.  However, DO NOT tell me that this man is not a hero.  He's done more to ensure your right to write such hateful things about him on an internet message board.

When he endured the beatings and the torture that he did, it's because he believed in the very liberty that you try to take as your own, yet you throw his sacrifices and suffering aside because his political ideals don't match your own.  He endured so much to ensure that you can do that.  He stayed true not only to his values, but to what our country is about and what it means to be an American.  Just take a look at what he endured.

To me he is a hero.

To me, well I can't express my rage and be within the CoC, but let me just tell you to kiss the part of me that I wiped after a "movement".  And just to be sure, don't kiss the left cheek or the right cheek, do it "right on the lips".

Well said. A hero is a hero and McCain is a true American the likes a which most on here most could only dream of.
