So...what are the tax implications for what they end up selling? I honestly don't know how that works, but I'd think if the government doesn't get a cut then something is amiss.

I started farming by digging irrigation ditches for almond trees haha.


Now I'm involved in grapes, almonds, pistachios.


My three brothers also farm, and a lot of it is jointly leased ground but solely farmed crops so not everyone is involved in the day to day of every crop. I hope that makes sense?


I stick mainly to grapes, they stick mainly to the trees but we'll "hire" each other when things get busy.

I could be wrong, but I'm going to guess that it can't be taxed if sold on Indian Reservation property.  My basis for this is growing up just a few miles from an Indian Reservation.  Gas, booze and cigarettes were always cheaper because they did not have to charge sales tax (not sure about federal taxes though).

That's specifically where I'm talking about.  I grew up in Albuquerque (specifically Alameda) less than 10 miles from Sandia Pueblo.   :thumbsup:

I was born and raised in Albuquerque and still have a lot of family there.  I left in the late 80's while in my early 20's when I joined the Navy.  I eventually married and was stationed here in Jacksonville during my Naval career.  I return roughly once a year to visit or participate in family functions (weddings, funerals, etc.).  I missed this year's "big get-together" celebrating my grandmother's 101st birthday due to starting a new job.     However, my wife and I may make a visit sometime around the holidays.

 

I remember when the Sandia Reservation was relatively "poor" prior to the Casino that has been built there.  Del Norte High School and the surrounding neighborhoods didn't exist, and Cibola High School was surrounded by desert.  That's where I spent a lot of time riding dirt bikes, 4 wheeling and shooting rabbits.  I used to ride horses down by the river in what we used to call "The Bosque".  I don't recognize the areas as much today.

 

Since I am hijacking this thread, if you would like to hear more about what Albuquerque was like when I grew up there, shoot me a PM.  There were points in my up-bringing where I wasn't necessarily a "good citizen" as well as a time where I worked in law enforcement.  I have met and know quite a few people that were/are influential in politics, the media and business mainly through family ties.
