Minimal basic mistakes in OLine blocking assignments in passing and rushing situations

Defense sticking with individual responsibilities.

Cover WR and TE over the middle with minimal wide open pass completions

Improvement in Blake accuracy in passing to WR/TE where only they have position on reception

Mix in a little more play action(5 more plays per game than 2014) on offense to keep S and CB aware of Blake running option

Of course the new Jaxson debut

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.







 

How about...

 

1 sack in each quarter.

win the turnover battle.

a passing TD longer than 20 yards.

a PR longer than 20 yards.

more than 50% time of possession.

Good solid observable tackling..   nothing demonstrates coaching ability better than the overall tackling skills of the whole team.

 

No injuries of course, but more importantly, a demonstration of coaching skill through injury avoidance.  Receivers catching the ball, running if there is room, but also showing the ability to just get to the ground without taking the big hit.  All of the best players understand this skill, while also having the ability to get low when the matchup is right, and knock the defender on his butt.  That builds downhill momentum.

 

Deliver hits equal too or heavier than our opponent.

 

Relinquishing our division for the SB was an ill-conceived trade.  Being in the same division with the mighty Steelers is what kept us competitive early on in franchise history.  Standing toe to toe with the Steelers twice a year (Ravens too) kept our armor strong for the rest of the NFL.  

 

So in a nutshell, I'll be looking for observable excellence in coaching through the demonstrated fundamental skills in the players.  

 

And the quality of the play-calling by way of the new OC.  We have been plain vanilla for so long.  A good coach, or OC, should have at least a handful of plays that will result in an easy TD in almost every game.  Not one that works because of the exceptional skills of the players, but one that works because of the exceptional timing of the play-call.

No injuries.  I would rather them play safe during a pointless game than to lose a key player to an injury.

 

That being said the rookies or on the bubble players need to give it their all to learn, improve and give the coaches a good idea of who to keep or not to keep.
