The Great, Big Joeckel Thread (merged threads)

Quote:I think the concerns with Gus are more about in-game management than player development.

Absolutely. One of those he can get better at, and one he cant. He's gotta start showing improvement on gamedays, and there's no reason to think he cant. I think Marrone will be helpful to Gus with some of the game management stuff this year also.

Quote:I would also question his assistant hires.

He definitely whiffed on Fisch, but I think it was pretty admirable for a relatively new HC to admit his mistake and move on after only 2 years. I'm one of those that believes it was Gus' decision to fire Jedd, and that he could've kept him around another year at least if he wanted.

Acknowledging a mistake and quickly moving on is something else we haven't had much of around here.

Yeah...right.
Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.

Gus should improve in that area this year based on experience.  Adding an experienced coordinator and a former head coach to the staff should help significantly as well.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

It's not like Gus had a murderer's row of coaching selections to pick from.  When a new head coach is hired, they're usually scrambling to build a staff at a time when most teams are already settled with theirs, and there aren't a ton of to tier candidates just sitting out there waiting for a call.  New head coaches usually tend to hire from a pool that they're familiar with, so that narrows the field even further.  The fact that Gus didn't stick with Fisch after recognizing the problems between the coordinator and the QB is encouraging.  The coaches he hired to bolster the staff show his commitment to improving the situation here.

Quote:Again, thanks for pointing out the fact that you really are clueless.
Yeah it is just the vines.  Not the previous season of poor pass blocking.

I couldn't give a flying poo if he calls a timeout at a bad time.  Just make our team good again.

It's really not even worth bothering with you if you're not capable of understanding why Joeckel struggled last year.  It's clear you've made up your mind.  That's fine.  If he manages to turn things around this season, I fully expect you to crawl back under your rock.

I just said Ryan Davis was eating Luke's lunch and you come in crying about it as usual.

Typical.

Not crying.  Just pointing out that the vines you're using as your personal scouting tool aren't necessarily representative of where Joeckel is at in his development.  Again, you latch on to a couple of snippets because it supports your dislike for Joeckel.  That's fine.  If he proves you wrong, I'm sure we won't be hearing any mea culpa from you.  That's now how people of your ilk operate.  They just move on to the next thing to whine about.

Except for the fact that I pointed out that he looked good in that vine where he was beating Branch, and in a clip yesterday I said he looked good.

Keep crying though.  I can literally feel how chocked up you are getting.

How is it whining when someone loses and you say that person lost?

Your perception skills are a tad off because nobody is crying.

Scouting prowess based on a couple of 5 second vines coupled with a season where the guy was coming back from a significant injury and never had any opportunity to work on conditioning or getting stronger apparently is good enough for you.  For the rest who recognize the challenges he has faced in his first couple of seasons, there's an understanding that year 3 is the critical one for Joeckel.  You've already made your evaluation known.  Don't try weaseling out of it now.

Like I said previously.  It's a waste of time using logic with you because this is all you can retort with.  It's okay.  It's expected from you.  Nobody would ever confuse you with a thinker on this board.

Does anyone else find it odd that almost every thread ends with some trollster and some modster having a pissing contest?

Some of you have been at it for waaaay too long.

I don't think he is garbage more a product of a weak draft class that has only had 8 pro bowlers one was undrafted, another as a KR.  The strength of that drafted seemed to be more in the 2nd tier first round players.

That said the guy is almost still a rookie at this point when you consider his first year he played out of position and hurt and his second year he played with an assistant Oline coach teaching while playing next to suspect guard play.

What you do see is flashes of the player he is supposed to be,  He hasn't been atrocious when playing Watt, he handled Quinn before his injury, and last year he opened up some nice holes for Drobs 4 game tear.

This year he has added needed bulk and has an actual Oline coach who is considered one of the best in the league.  This is the year to judge the guy, I doubt we will have the answer till week 8- the end of the season.

Outside the fact that he has a quality Oline coach I'm glad he is going in practice against passrushers Dave Caldwell picked that are coached by Bradley/Walsh.

If by the end of the season this is still a question its time to find a replacement.

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

Quote:While reading an article by Ryan OHalloran, he reported that the team was keeping score on the 1 on 1 pass rush drills. Linder had the best score of 8 out of 9, but interestingly, Joeckel had a score of 7 out of 11. This scoring rates who won the 1 on 1 contest.

I thought it was interesting that Chris Smith won 10 1 on 1 contests.

FWIW, those figures are actually complied by him, not the team.

Can we stop calling him a rookie?  He's going into his 3rd year.  He has missed some time and had some coaching issues, but seriously....he's not a rookie.  By that logic, Blaine Gabbert is a rookie because he never had any stable coaching.  Sometimes we just need to see production.  Hopefully we'll see that this year.  If this year is like last year, there's really no more excuses.  Put up or shut up.  Hoping we see what Caldwell and all of the pundits saw when he was drafted.

One of these years.............
