California Transgender Teen Crowned Homecoming Queen

She's just a girl that wanted to be homecoming Queen...just like every other girl in the pageant.
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

Quote: Why is "gay" often incorrectly capitalized by people? Oh, and Ford = found on road dead.
Some on this board are truly pathetic.
That said, congratulations to her. Or him. I dunno. But that was really nice of the students to crown her. When I was in school, the only girls you saw winning Homecoming Queen were the fake-tanned plastic-like barbies. Quote:Why is "gay" often incorrectly capitalized by people? I'm thinking in Sammy's case...it's because it was the first letter of a new sentence. Those are pretty much always capitalized.. :whistling: :woot:

; ; "This is really good, you want a bite, Honey?" Quote:I agree with you as far as gay people are concerned. I think we as a society have mostly moved beyond the point where a gay person should feel compelled to declare their sexuality publicly. On the other hand, considering the discrimination, ridicule and downright abuse that was common as recent as a decade ago, I understand why some people did it, and that was often to let others know they weren't alone, and there would be support for anyone who wanted to stop living a lie. I understand your point(s), and I wouldn't say that I disagree. When there is no point to be made is when we will have finally evolved. I am happy for her, just like I would be happy for any home coming queen. The fact that we (people) think that the show of support is needed is the problem. Me personally, I don't want to treat her special, because she isn't ... she is normal. Isn't that the way it should be? ... treating everyone like they are normal because they "are". When we (people) stop believing it necessary to shine a light on acts of acceptance will be the point that society in general catches up to the way I think, and the way I think it should be. I understand we aren't there yet, and I have to admit that I didn't read the article. I would rather there be no article to read in the first place. I don't want to believe her winning home coming queen was any form of a gesture of her classmates support for anything less than what it should be for any other young lady that will or has won home coming queen. We don't have to make it different, we have to make it normal.
I like reading articles about homecoming queens.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say! Quote:I'm thinking in Sammy's case...it's because it was the first letter of a new sentence. Those are pretty much always capitalized. In before TMD tries to explain this one away.

Quote:Why is "gay" often incorrectly capitalized by people? Because in the english language we capitalize the first letter in each sentence?

However, its funny that we'll all pretend that I didn't have a point there. "gay" is often capitalized (even when its not the first word of a sentence) and that is incorrect usage. Quote:Yeah, I overlooked that... I rarely notice gay being capitalized by anyone. I will make sure to look out for it and belittle them if I do see it though.
Quote:Yeah, I overlooked that... Like clockwork. It didn't happen in this thread, and it rarely happens anywhere.

The only time I've seen it capitalized has been when LGBT is explained, and then it is appropriate. The bottom line here is that he's deflecting his attention away from his bone headed mistake, and it was caught here before he could edit it.
