Impressions From The Steelers Game
|
Quote:asinian? What does that even mean? Yes, it was Bortles that chose to throw such an ill advised pass and I'll pin the blame on him for putting Thomas in that situation, where it rightly belongs. Thomas's head was turned to Bortles, he was taking doing what good players do, and presuming that Bortles wasn't going to make a throw to him if there was someone ready to whack him in the knee when he caught it, but Bortles made the throw with a couple of guys ready to dive at Thomas's knee. It was idiotic and it was 100% on Bortles. He had everything in front of him without a lot of traffic to stop him from seeing it. He chose to put Thomas in that situation, and it was DUMB. It looks to me like it was a designed play. I think that Thomas is a big boy and can take a hit after catching the ball. It's pretty dumb in my opinion to say that it was Bortles' fault that he got injured. It happens. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. I wouldn't worry about the Bortles/Thomas throw. It's pretty common in sports for you to try to get your key players involved early. It makes sense that he might put a couple throws in there early to make the defense key in on that match up. Also, Thomas should be used to being hung out to dry. Manning is notorious for doing that to his receivers.

It's pretty dumb in my opinion to say that it was Bortles' fault that he got injured. It happens. Every play has a design, that doesn't mean you throw the ball at a defender after the receiver falls down, for instance. Bortles made a bad decision there, and it cost Thomas. Defend it if you like, but I was really disappointed to see that Bortles still can't play above the design of the play even when there is so little in front of him to have to read.
Quote:I wouldn't say his passes were head scratching, except for the Julius Thomas injury throw, which was just moronic. Don't throw two yard passes to guys running at the sideline when you still have time to look for better options, and Bortles wasn't under a rush when he threw that ball. It was just idiotic and makes it hard to not be especially critical of the rest of his game thanks to it. Bortles was rolling out to his left, Thomas came across the field from right to left in what appears to be a designed play. Exactly how much time did Bortles have to find another option with no blockers in front of him and a player coming free just a few yards away? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Quote:Every play has a design, that doesn't mean you throw the ball at a defender after the receiver falls down, for instance. Bortles may well develop over time to be savvy enough to throw that ball away if no one else is open, but right now you are overstating the case against him. That sort of ill-advised pass happens 30 times every Sunday all over the NFL. It's not that big of a deal. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Exactly how much time did Bortles have to find another option with no blockers in front of him and a player coming free just a few yards away? Well there's the problem right there. You obviously don't have a DVR and didn't actually get to see what happened on the play. See the highlight here at about the 2:30 mark http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2015081454...u=gameinfo|contentId%3A0ap3000000510456&tab=recap To recap what actually happened, Thomas had a defender trailing him and a guy ahead of him ready to take a run at his knee when he caught the ball, no one was chasing Bortles at all. If there really was no one open down the field he should have thrown it away, the steelers had a guy waiting for that play ready to try to take Thomas out for the season and either Bortles didn't see him, or didn't care and just went ahead and threw the ball anyway. There was no need to take that risk on the best player on the team when he's two yards beyond the line of scrimmage and running hard at the sideline.

Doesn't matter if it was a designed play.. EVerybody and their brother could see the defender closing on JT at full speed about to plaster his behind...Blake should have thrown it away or ran it.

See the highlight here at about the 2:30 mark You certainly live up to your screen name. You are most certainly wrong. Here is a series of screen shots taken within 1 second of the very video that you linked. Note the time on the game clock. Thomas is open as Bortles sets up to throw. Note the defender getting by Clay Harbor. Also, barely pictured in the lower left is the defender that made the hit on Thomas. ![]() Just as the ball is being released. Again note the positions of the two defenders. ![]() There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Just prior to the catch. Notice how quickly both defenders have changed direction.

Quote:Just prior to the catch. Notice how quickly both defenders have changed direction. Stop embarrassing yourself. No one is close to Bortles in your screenshots and he's still 15 to 20 yards from the sideline when he decides to make the throw. Thomas has a guy chasing him and the corner in the short zone never turned his hips downfield. He was waiting for that dinky little piece of crap throw so he could take out Thomas's knee and he did. The Steelers knew that dinky throw it out of the playbook play was coming and Bortles fell for it and thank God Thomas didn't get his ACL popped through Bortles hasty bad decision. The defender just made a good play. If Bortles has to wait for people to be more open than that, he will never throw the ball.

It wasn't a bad play call and Thomas was wide open for the catch, the defender made a really good play.
"It was Blake Bortles the whole time. They believe in this kid. He reminds me a bit of a young Ben Roethlisberger." ~Mike Mayock

Quote:Maybe you are the one that should stop embarrassing yourself. It's never embarrassing to be correct, even if everyone else doesn't understand it. Bortles key on that play should have been whether the CB actually cleared out, and he didn't, Bortles made the mistake and Thomas got to pay for it. Ignore that if you like, but I won't.
I am rewatching the game on NFL Gamepass.
I don't think I realized how close Denard was to running that kickoff back. Arrelious Benn fell and tripped him up. ![]() The guys to our left of Denard are the one's who brought him down. Had he not been slowed down by Benn, I think it would have just been the kicker that had a shot at him. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Saying Bortles made bad decisions last night is laughable. You don't get more open than JT or ARob were on those plays. It's Bortles job to get them the ball, not to make sure they don't get hit.
He had two "bad" throws and by bad I mean high but still catchable and those were both very early. He was very good, and showed great pocket presence. Did what he did last preseason except against the 1s and with better ball placement.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

So you believe that you are correct in saying that the Steelers had a guy waiting for that play ready to try to take Thomas out for the season? That they had a guy specifically in place to take a run at Thomas's knee? Do you realize how idiotic that is? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Sam Kouvaris sucked last night and should be cut immediately.
He said things like: “lots of guys on that tackle” and “that’s umm, ahh, new guys out there for the jaguars on the field goal”. Seriously…Sam….A little homework before the game would be nice. Also while I'm on it…Channel 4…your pregame….was that NOT in HD? Is that even possible anymore? Good Lord Outside of that I liked what I saw. Happy with BB and Offense. Mistakes happen, its early. |
