Impressions From The Steelers Game
|
Quote:Sam Kouvaris sucked last night and should be cut immediately. Kouvaris just isn't a play by play guy. And he said "Dry Archer" on the opening kickoff. I got a chuckle out of that. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:So you believe that you are correct in saying that the Steelers had a guy waiting for that play ready to try to take Thomas out for the season? That they had a guy specifically in place to take a run at Thomas's knee? Do you realize how idiotic that is? I didn't say the steelers told the player to injure him, I think the steelers told their corners to stay disciplined to that kind of play and they did. That it was possible for them to take out his knee was incidental, but still the most likely thing to happen. A corner probably isn't going to go high on a tight end.
Quote:Sam Kouvaris sucked last night and should be cut immediately. I thought that the whole production from a media standpoint was pretty bad. I don't know if it was a Uverse thing or the feed from the station, but there were times when the video would either drop or become garbled. I suspect that it was more a channel 4 thing. Quote:Well there's the problem right there. You obviously don't have a DVR and didn't actually get to see what happened on the play. See the highlight here at about the 2:30 mark There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Televised preseason games always sucked as far as quality picture, play by play and analysis.. This shouldn't be anything new to anyone..

Quote:I think this year is worse. Just like with Frangie, I don't get why the team has Kouvaris doing games. In previous years, they had professionals like Kevin Kugler and Paul Burmeister calling games. Not some local yokel. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Sam Kouvaris sucked last night and should be cut immediately. Sam has been mailing it in shortly after Lex and Terry left. No one to publicly to bust his stones for such lame sports reporting. Your local station just hurt themselves last night. Mark did ok not great but could have gotten another local Lageman or someone else to call game and have Sam chime in on top of those two.
Quote:Just like with Frangie, I don't get why the team has Kouvaris doing games. Channel 4 spent money getting the contract, they probably just want to try to boost their own guy while simultaneously saving on the cost of production.
Quote:Sam has been mailing it in shortly after Lex and Terry left. No one to publicly to bust his stones for such lame sports reporting. Calling play-by-play isn't easy and is definitely an art form. Sam is a good journalist, but not very good at live play-by-play announcing. I think Mark Brunell did an alright job as an analyst and Lageman would have done about the same. Quote:Seems like someone needs some remedial work on their reading skills. All I did was quote what you wrote. We could go on with some more of your "analysis" of the play if you want. I believe that you said that there was no rush on Bortles during the play. I think that the series of screen shots illustrates something different. Here are the options that Bortles had on that play. 1. Throw to the obvious open reciever for a short gain (which is what happened). 2. Throw the ball away. 3. Run for dear life and either take a sack or make it to the sideline. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
I didn't see the game yet, but it looks like a perfectly reasonable throw to me. What an unbelievable bummer Thomas got hurt. Good grief.. We are going to have to start writing fines into our contracts for guys that can't keep their fingers and toes safe..

Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I believe that you said that there was no rush on Bortles during the play. I think that the series of screen shots illustrates something different. Here are the options that Bortles had on that play. If the defender took a bad angle and Thomas made a big gain, then it would have been a great decision because seldomrite would have known that there was a good chance that the defender takes a bad angle or a phenomenal athlete like Thomas could have made him miss. He is just showing classic hindsight bias.
Does anyone who has All 22 (?) have knowledge of other targets available to Bortles on the play to Thomas? In the stills, I saw Robinson along the sideline. Were there any other players open on the play?
Understand he is rolling against his arm to the left on the play. It would have been quite difficult and likely foolish for him to stop and throw back across the field to a back side pattern. I'm not fully prepared to assign blame to Bortles unless I know he had better options. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I think that the series of screen shots illustrates something different. Here are the options that Bortles had on that play. There would be almost no chance of being sacked on that play. The closest player to him was the guy that Thomas had beaten, and he wasn't peeling over to Bortles. I'd say the best play probably would have been tossing it further down the field to Robinson like they did to Benn in a later drive, but I'd always rather see the team trying to push it down the field than taking the underneath throw. Throwing short can be the right choice, but given that the corner never turned his hips I'd rather see Bortles be aggressive and see what Robinson can do against a trailing CB and maybe a safety. The real problem here is how you and some others fail to actually recognize that JT wasn't obviously open. There's a difference between having space around a guy and him being obviously open. Still, I tire of arguing pointlessly with someone that doesn't understand what they're even looking at when they watch the film. I doubt the Jaguars come out and say the Bortles failed to read the coverage properly, or did something he did a lot of last year and just decided ahead of time who he was going to throw it to before the play actually developed, but it's clear watching the actual play what he should have done, which is either thrown the ball to Robinson in the honey hole since the steelers didn't commit fully to covering him, or strung the play out some more with the possibility of throwing it away. |
