Only one week has passed in Preseason but I do think that the Lions look really good this year.

 

I think so much comes down to Haloti Ngata getting healthy and adapting to the Lions aggressive Defensive system.   The one major concern I had from the pre-season ' win'  against the Jets the other night is the Lions run Defense w/o Ngata was vulnerable up the middle when the Jets had their # 1 Offensive Line in the game.   The FA loss of Ndamukong Suh was felt on this end.  

 

Like some of the others mentioned in this thread,  Ameer Abdullah was very impressive against the Jets.  Abdullah has looked great since the rookie post-draft minicamp.   So far,  Abdullah is protecting the football,  which was a major issue with him in the early part of his time with Nebraska.    As long as Abdullah stays relatively healthy,  he should have a huge impact as a rookie and for many seasons to come.

Yeah, but Clemmings happened to fall to them in the draft and may be able to take over without much of a hitch. The rest of the Vikings OL is rock solid, and with so many weapons on offense including AP, they should do just fine.

Most teams looked like they were in their first preseason game and have work to do. I noticed three teams that seem to have everything together on offense already. That would be the Detroit Lions, the Buffalo Bills (all three of their qbs looked good) and the Philadephia Eagles.

If by "great stats" you mean he hit all the short (gimme) passes, sure.

 

To be honest, Shaun Hill looked better.  But all that means is that they've got a better backup situation than most teams.

 

And in fairness, there really isn't much anybody can take from preseason stats.

 

Other than it's pretty clear they are keeping Ted in a short range cocoon as they did last year, where he's most effective due to his limited arm strength.  Playing to his strengths and mitigating his weaknesses.

 

I agree that Bortles looks to have a much higher ceiling, where Ted may already be peaking.

Tyler Lockett looks like a real dangerous weapon on ST for the Seahawks. Russel Wilson has to love the idea of him setting up the offense with good field position as well as the occasional return TD.

 

Yes, I really like this kid. He was one of my favourite players in this draft and I was excited when we drafted him. I watched Kansas State games just because of him. We really needed a return specialist after a year of "Mr. fair catch" Bryan Walters. He can become everything that Percy Harvin was supposed to be. On a rookie contract and with great character. I just hope he can stay healthy. That's my only concern about Lockett.

 

 

Seahawks fans are very unhappy with their o-line's performance and run-blocking (as opposed to our o-line's performance). The Seahawks have some young up and comers in Tyler Lockett and Frank Clark, but they had some major issues early on with ball-security.

 

I'm not that worried about run-blocking. We have an open competition for two new starters (LG and C) and it will take some time for them, but I think they will eventually get their stuff together. If not, Beast Mode and Wilson's running abilities will probably make them look better than they really are.

 

On the other hand, I'm extremely worried about pass protection, which is getting worse year after year. I know OL coach Tom Cable prefers run-blocking over pass protection skills in his linemens, but we just paid Wilson and get him the best weapons he's had in his time in Seattle. That won't help too much if he'd still have to run for his life 0,5 seconds after the snap. 

 

 

About Frank Clark: he had a really good first preseason game and I'm excited about him. The plan is to use him all over the DL, similar to Michael Bennett. It's too early, but I think he could be Bennett's long term replacement. If Bennett is still unhappy about his contract next year and Clark will play good this season, I could see us trading MB to Atlanta (Dan Quinn) or somewhere else. I'm also excited to see an Avril-Bennett-Hill-Clark package going after QBs on 3rd&long downs. Maybe also add Irvin and Marsh to the mix.

 

With Clark and Lockett, this already seems like our best draft since 2012 (Irvin, Wagner, Wilson). Hopefully at least one of the three OL we drafted (one of them is a converted DT Kristjan Sokoli) will also be successfull.

He had talent. Just always injured. If he can stay healthy, he could be great. I like what the Vikings are doing.

Most of my friends are Buffalo fans. This is nothing new for that fan base. Every year it's "we have a good defense, we don't need a good QB to take us to the playoffs" or "EJ looks elite!"


It's all just their current flavor. No playoffs again for Buffalo this year IMO
