Jaguars' Marqise Lee fully cleared to practice

#61

Quote:Interesting note:

Marqise Lee measured 6-0, 192lbs at the combine and coming into the league.

On Jaguars Today yesterday, Hays Carlyon said the team asked him to bulk up in the offseason and he reported in at 206lbs this year.

6-0, 206lbs is a pretty nice sized WR with that speed.

saw him at Chipotle recently and also noticed that he looks like he bulked up some.

Quote:Technically he ran the fastest at the combine (by a smidgen).

Lee: 4.52

Robinson: 4.6

Hurns: 4.55

Greene: 4.53

But yeah I think he looks noticeably faster on the field.

Note than Benn ran a 4.36 at his Pro Day, and Walters ran a 4.4. As for Lee, I put him more as a 4.4 guy despite his shockingly slow combine run because he doesn't appear to lose speed in pads, however, is that truly fast enough to blow away coverage when CBs in this league run just as fast? I really wish we had a 4.3 guy on the roster, and you can't even say that Benn is due to his past injuries. We have a couple 4.4 guys and then a slew of guys in the 4.55 to 4.6 ranges. Doss, for example, is another guy who ran a 4.6.

I hope he takes his time.

I'd rather he get completely healthy than he rush back, not be completely healed, then aggravate the injury and miss more time.

Agree. I'd be surprised if he plays at all in the preseason.

he's probably completely painfree already, but they're waiting another few weeks just to be "safe."

Unfortunately the hamstrings are notorious for re-injury so I wouldn't be shocked if we see him having hamstring trouble again at some point this year.

That has to be so frustrating. Bc you're right, he probably has no pain and wants to get back out there but can't yet.

He's got to get tough mentally.  He can still work on a lot, especially his knowledge of the playbook.  I think that's really whats holding him back in general, the mental aspect of the game at this level.

Besides route running and possibly reading defenses on the fly, do you think there are any other areas the "mental" aspect of his game needs improving?  Care to cite any examples?

Film room.  Watching technique of other wide receivers, learning tendencies of other corners (esp in the division), playbook.  Sitting in on other position's film rooms such as QB or shadowing Olsen.

My opinion.  It's not founded in facts and quotes from the coaching staff.  I believe Marqise to be physically gifted without equivalent football IQ.

But how do you know he doesn't do these things (learning tendencies of other corners), or needs to do these things (playbook) or other position's film rooms?!?

Just because he is struggling on a mental aspect of his game doesn't mean he isn't trying to improve it, or that he needs to do a bunch of things to improve the areas in which he is deficient.

I don't know if he is doing it, but I hope he is.

The day before he hurt his hammy this time around, he was held out because of advanced analytics showed he moved around a tremendous amount in the previous practice.  More than anyone else IIRC.  Gus held him out one day, the next day he hurt himself.  That's not smart.  He's not battling for a roster spot, reliability is the best ability.

Getting hurt is not smart?

I don't think that's what he's trying to say...I think he's trying that Lee's excessive movements allude to him overextending himself in an attempt to make an impression, which in turn, is the root cause for his injury. And that this is largely necessary because he isn't in any real danger getting cut. Basically, it's a slow your roll commentary...I think...maybe.

Wow...deja vu.  :teehee:

Quote:i expected him to improve his hands this offseason. still plenty of time to work on it i guess
The entire team has had bad hands since 03. I swear to god if they just hired someone to be a full time "how to catch the ball" teacher they would win another 2 games a year.
