"We're further along than we anticipated" Bradley on offense

Quote:Stats.

Don't be purposely ignorant. Read the thread. No one is trying to argue based on pure stats. It was used as an addition to. But whatever

Anyone remember JungleCat? What happened to him?

Quote:I was going to point this out as well. You could assume he is talking about success when he says further along, but it is far more likely he is referring to implementation. This is the first year in this new offense, and both Gus and Greg talked about installing the offense in stages. If the players are understanding their routes and responsibilities ahead of schedule, then the offense is further along. It makes more sense to view his statement in that context. In the first 2 games this year, we saw JT fail to look back on a pass and Greene run an incorrect route, which means there are implementation issues still, but they are pretty minor.

I do agree we need touchdowns this year, but I don't think that's what Gus is talking about when he says the offense is further along than anticipated.

That said, I do have hope for this team this year. The biggest thing that has been different from the previous years is that we are actually moving the ball against other teams. In years past, we got all this hype during the practices and training camp, but it was non-existent when the lights came on. As long as we are converting third downs and getting in the red zone, I think we can have hope the errors will get cleaned up, especially once the players can play with out thinking about the x's and o's.

Very nice post. Thanks for the input. Understood the new offense is further along than anticipated. Let's hope it starts to produce tds. I like every other jag fan here wants success. But I'm tired of stalled drives. But let's hope some of these remaining issues clear up soon.

All but one. The first drive against Pit

Quote:It appears the main crux with THUNDER CAT is obviously the lack of TD's, since that has been mentioned a few (hundred) times.

What I took from him saying "Further along" was the fact that this is a new offense for the team and they're actually moving the ball really well. Picking up 3rd downs, which is something we're not used to, and running with good authority. They look, for the most part, to be a functioning offense. Our offense looked worlds better than a super bowl winning QB's offense, so saying "Further along" is a completely acceptable and TRUE comment from the head coach.

Side note: Blake acknowledged the need for 6 instead of 3, so I don't think they're all so dumb as to think field goals are the pinnacle.

Nice post. Thanks for the clarification. But like you pointed out at the end of your post we need more! Hopefully we can see more next game.

I've got mvannostran as the first dummy that bumps this thread after bortles finally throws a td. He'll probably say something real cool like STATS!!!

We all want TD's instead of field goals. It will happen.

Pretty much. Then everyone will start slapping aces all around and celebrating like we made the 6th seed.

Agreed. Me and you will then point and laugh while they get excited about their team.

Let's see.  It's a preseason game, specifically the 2nd one which is nothing more than a "full speed, full contact practice".

a)  Neither team has all of their designated starters playing.

b)  Neither team is game planning at all leading up to the game.

c)  Both teams are using a hand full of vanilla plays and formations both offensively and defensively.

d)  Most of the starters for both teams play less than 2 quarters.

Yet, the OP wants to see more touchdowns and complains about the stats.   Rolleyes

Quote:They're starting to click on offense, and I get the feeling they will once you have Yeldon to boost their running game and Julius Thomas to boost their red zone efficiency. Keep in mind that Julius has inked 12 TDs in each of the past two seasons.

And catch the ball! That's our biggest problem so far.

Nope. I'll just wait to see it happen again so I can enjoy the progress. Not dance and screech like a monkey.

Don't make a fool of your self. This exact post was made a couple of pages ago and I replied with an adequate answer. It has more to do than just the two games. But I'm not going to rehash every counter argument to every idiot that jumps in here like a Baffoon after only reading one post.

Actually I read several of the posts (around 4 pages) and got tired of the ignorance crying for more touchdowns and the "proof" that the team is not showing signs of improvement.

You're really dazzling the masses with your brilliance here.

His points are valid, so I can understand why you'd dismiss them without much thought.  Thinking isn't your thing.

They've played exactly 2 preseason games.  The starting offense (still not a complete unit) has played about a half of football in those two games combined.

Preseason games are more about situational football and not so much about the final score.  Coaches are looking at how players respond in certain situations.

As it has been pointed out repeatedly to you, the first team offense would have had multiple touchdowns if the receivers had simply caught the football instead of dropping it.  You chalk that up to the QB and receivers not being in sync, which is a complete load of garbage.  If the QB is hitting receivers on timing routes in the hands or putting the ball in a catchable spot, it's not about being in sync.  It's about the receivers doing their jobs.

You can stomp around like a spoiled child who isn't getting his way.  That's certainly your prerogative.  When Gus says the offense is progressing better than expected, I'll take his word for it based on the fact that his livelihood depends on this team getting better, while yours?  I'm pretty sure the bar is a tad lower.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Honestly it's been off season workouts, mini camps. Otas, training camp now 2 pre season games. Yes I want to see more. Why is that a bad thing. Why is mediocrity accepted here.

By the way it's always about scoring points. What the heck do you think there in there to do? Dance?
You've been at the practices?  Because the reports I've heard, and my own first-hand experience in being there would tell a very different story from your little fantasy.
