"We're further along than we anticipated" Bradley on offense

Until it translates to progress in the regular season, when it actually counts, it is all lip service.

Well, we've only got a few more weeks before we see that tested.  In the meantime, all we have to go on is what we've seen so far, and it's difficult to stand there with a straight face saying you're not seeing improvement.

People are lauding the new offense in another thread.  The funny thing is that this is a preseason offensive game plan, so there's not a lot of complexity to it or creativity.  The truth is, the team is simply better this year than they were last.  There are still issues, but the talent level has improved, and that's becoming pretty clear on the field.  No, they aren't racking up TDs the way some would like, but that kind of progress will come, especially when we're actually game planning for an opponent.  The third preseason game will give us our best look at where the team is as the starters will be in there into the third quarter.  We still won't have a complete picture because we're going to be without the TE we signed to be our red zone target, but we will get an opportunity to see our starting RB this week, so we're getting closer.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I absolutely agree I see progress in the preseason. No doubt about that. I have also seen Tiger Woods look like a machine on the driving range and puke all over the golf course.

Time will tell!

His points are valid, so I can understand why you'd dismiss them without much thought.  Thinking isn't your thing.

I know why he dismissed my argument.  It actually requires some thought.  Perhaps he should go with Dorthy to see the Wizard about getting a brain.

Not the very first one.

"So far, so good, so what?"

Quote:...In my original post I used the box score to show that the Giants crappy offense dominated every category over our supposed improved offense. I never said anything about 2nd and 3rd stringers...

Hmm... You've made it a point to look at the statsheet, so let's do that.

Of course you can't use stats from the second half given the nature of preseason games, so I'll focus on the first half stats...

Total first downs: Jaguars 11, Giants 8

Third down efficiency: Jaguars 5 of 11 for 45%, Giants 5 of 11 for 45%

Total net yards: Jaguars 160, Giants 138

Total offensive plays: Jaguars 43, Giants 40

Net yards rushing: Jaguars 49, Giants 27

Net yards passing: Jaguars 111, Giants 111

Gross passing yards: Jaguars 116, Giants 112

pass attempts, completions, INTs: Jaguars 25-13-0, Giants 31-10-0

red zone efficiency: Jaguars 0%, Giants 0%

Explain how the Giants dominated every offensive category

And 90% of those Jags stats came from the 1st team and then Checkdown Chad worked his magic
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

I'll add in the TOP which I had to calculate...

Time of possession: Jaguars 18:22, Giants 11:38

Leaving out the third string stats to feed your agenda

Exactly. Of those 5 of 11 third down conversions for instance, the team converted 5 of 8 with Bortles in there and then 0 of 3 with Henne in there.

Precisely. My agenda is to get the best possible feel for the Jaguars starting offense. What good does it do to include third string stats knowing a majority of the guys on the field at the time won't even make the final roster?

These arguments stink.

We were so close to scoring TDs a few times already in 2 quarters of PRESEASON.

They are going to be times where they capitalize on opportunities this season and probably plenty of times where they don't capitalize on opportunities because this is a very young offense.

In fact, I am happy that they are just missing these TD opportunities now in preseason just to get it out of the way. It's not going to be a field goal fest the whole season.

This team has improved big time and other fans are starting to realize it.

Absolutely. The team should be winning regular season games by now. Why aren't they? Laziness on Gus' part, I suspect. He'll probably have some tired excuse like the regular season not having started yet.

Quote:Yeah ok Gus. I'll believe you when I can see a few TD's thrown in a game. It would be nice if we could see some of that improvement you speak of actually equate to points. It sounds like lip service to me. The Giants dominated every offensive statistic yet were further along than anticipated. I guess we're waiting till the regular season to really show what we've got eh? At least that kicker competition is heating up because we're gonna need the best kicker possible. Actually it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep two kickers and go kicker by committee. I'm not bitter at all I like 49 yard field goals!

Somebody needs a Thunder shirt for cats.

Unfortunately they were dropped on Sat night and then they were turned into FGs.

I'm optimistic, but would like to see a couple explosive plays in the run game, maybe Yeldon can create some.
