Quote:Well like the OP stated it sounds like he asked for his release. Maybe they were just being nice by granting his request? It is the Browns front office we're talking about after all.

If he is asking to leave, you trade him. If he was still a quality player, there would have been a market for him. The browns could have ate the salary and someone would have given them a pick if he were a healthy starting caliber NT. What this tells me is that the browns know he won't pass the required physical for the trade to go through.

What they did was just give him 5.5 million dollars like an injury settlement to move on.

Even a bad front office wouldn't do something like that unless they know there is nothing left to redeem from him as far as the ability to even back up or a trade.

As a Browns fan on the side as well, Taylor was often injured. When on the field, he plays o.k. Getting him on the field regularly is the problem.

It sounds like you are right. Per rotoworld:

Quote:Steelers 'not interested' in NT Phil Taylor

Phil Taylor | FA

(September 2, 2015 10:40 PM EDT)

The Steelers came away from Wednesday's visit with Phil Taylor "not interested" in signing the free agent nose tackle.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Taylor's knee "needs (to be) fixed" and would take "too long to heal" for the Steelers to wait out Taylor's recovery. Taylor had his knee scoped in the offseason, but there were rumors he might need a microfracture procedure. At very least, he needs another surgery.
