Announcer's booth crew
|
Quote:Speaking of Paul Allen. Nothing will beat this call: This is a classic! To Paul Allen's credit, on his KFAN sports talk show, he often plays a clip of his young son imitating his Dad's play by play call of the Vikings being eliminated from the 2003 playoffs. His son was too young to hear the actual call when it was made in 2003. As for Tyrone Poole, he became an instant football hero in Green Bay! Another Paul Allen classic was Brett Favre's interception late in regulation time of the 2009 season NFC Championship game in New Orleans. P.A.'s shot at the Lions in this clip adds to the Lions-Vikings rivalry on this end. Yet, I greatly respect what he brings to the table as an announcer and as a sports talk host. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2Iw2YejS9A We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Speaking of Paul Allen. Nothing will beat this call: Awesome video. What can't we get announcers / commentators like that for every game?
Quote:Awesome video. Because CBS and Fox send the best commentators to the best games. That is why we never get Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, who often cover Patriots games.
Quote:I really like the Sunday night crew of Chris Collinsworth and Al Michaels. IMHO, Collinsworth is the best out there. His anecdotes and insight keep things interesting. He was brutalized by the pregame crew when he was at Fox and I could never understand why. Personality conflict, I guess. Collinsworth/ Albert on NBC was a pretty good duo as well. http://youtu.be/5JYVZ_1qPM0
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.
The Thursday night crew makes the game feel like i'm watching a college game for some reason. Probably just Mayock but they aren't as entertaining. Sometimes they're good for a joke.
No pain, no gain.

Nessler is a college play by play guy too. He was (for years) the voice of the EA Sports NCAA college football game.

I thought commentators could not work at college and NFL games the same season. Nothing Nessler says on Thursday nights makes me feel like I am watching a college game, so he must be doing something right.
Al Michaels is the best and he makes whoever he is with better. Chris Collinsworth is a good example- he's intelligent, personable, and insightful in his own right but I think Michaels brings out his best.
Nantz and Simms are good, sometimes Phil can get to be a little much but I like his honest enthusiasm. Michelle Tafoya is on empty. She's scripted and dull; Erin Andrews is equally vacuous IMO and I don't see much from any of the sideline women save Pam Oliver who occasionally is interesting. Jackie MacMullan on one of the afternoon TV shows is very good, though. Mike Tirico is ordinary but I like Gruden b/c he says so many silly things but...he has walked the walk and is credible. I'd like to see him paired with Al Michaels to see what they would bring. Joe Buck should stay with baseball; Aikman is OK, Dan Fouts isn't as bad as I first thought. The worst is Brian Sexton although I do like his extraordinary recall of facts, dates, history, etc. The announcing part is, well, awful.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

I like Mike Tirico, but without hearing him on any other program, I don't know if Jon Gruden is helping him sound better or not. Gruden usually does a great job, but once I heard him talk about being down on the sideline in the same stadium before it was even built. I hated Troy Aikman as a player because he was a Cowboy, but as a color analyst, he is one of the best on Fox. I never really thought about comparing college and NFL sideline reporters because for some reason colleges don't like to tell them what the injury is. They claim there's a patient confidentiality law that applies to college athletes. So we can only compare NFL reporter with NFL reporter. I like sideline reporters who actually say what an injury is - broken leg, torn ACL, etc. - instead of simply repeating what body part was injured, which everyone knows already.
Quote:Throw in Gus Johnson to go nuts at every big play and you have a winnerGood call on Gus Johnson.. Chris Collinsworth (insight) Erin Andrews (eye candy) John Madden (humor) Gus Johnson (hype-man) I shoulda hired that crew to do the play by play for my first wedding.. Wouldn't have been such a snoozefest.. *Chris* "The timing that Winger has shown on his route to the pulpit needs to increase or his opponent is going to feast on his lackadaisical efforts" *Erin* "Mrs. Winger is a VERY lucky woman, I wish I was in her position" *John* "Can't wait to hear about the honeymoon.. BOOM!!" *Gus* "OMG HE HAS THE RING!!"
Quote:I'm still partial to Gus Johnson that he'd have to be part of my dream team. That emotion on that Hail Garrard pass. I call it Hail Michael because the most important thing was Thomas catching the ball, not Garrard throwing it. That was by far the best emotional display I have heard from any announcer. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlvOUG8nuZ4 If you have a problem watching the video or don't have speakers, Gus Johnson said this: (Garrard drops back to pass.) Garrard. (Garrard steps up to pass.) Steps up. (Garrard throws the ball.) Firrrrres. Mike Sims-Walkerrrrr. (Glover Quin knocks the ball down.) Knocked down. (Thomas catches the ball.) CAUGHT! UNBELIEVABLE! (Celebrating starts.) WOW! FIFTY YARDS! WHOA! David Garrard!
Quote:I call it Hail Michael because the most important thing was Thomas catching the ball, not Garrard throwing it. I call it Hail Sneeze because I sneezed when the ball was in the air. The Texans DB turned around and said "bless you" while the ball was in the air and did not see Mike Thomas standing there. The rest is history. You're welcome.

You can keep Gus Johnson. While he does blow up at the end of games, he also does it throughout. He overshadows the actual game with his outbursts. I like an announcer that adds to the emotion of the moment, not overtakes it completely.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say! Quote:You can keep Gus Johnson. I like an announcer that adds to the emotion of the moment, not overtakes it completely. Totally agree. Gus can get carried away. That's why I don't mind Joe Buck (who, apparently, irritates a lot of people) - I can supply my own enthusiasm. It was great to see/hear that play one more time. Everyone did everything right. I was there and it's one of the handful of plays I'll always recall seeing live.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote:Totally agree. Gus can get carried away. Can't stand Buck! Glad we don't get to hear him much since he's with FOX . I do like Collinsworth and Musberger.
