Jags tried to sign Aldon Smith per report

I just see him being a really bad influence in an NFL locker room. but can he rush the passer We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:What he did was outside the locker room. Only the airport and the roads have to worry about him. He's been arrested five times over the last three years, a few of those times involving serious felony charges. Last year he was suspended nine games, and he's possibly facing further suspensions. His latest arrest involved a DUI hit and run.

Jaguars probably had conditional behavior contractual considerations whereas Raiders did not or maybe even Raiders gave him additional pay for behavioral problems. Classic Raider player
The Jaguars locker room is a tight knit, competitive, positive yet young group of players. Do you all really want to subject them to the influences of a guy constantly in trouble with the law. Have we not learned anything from the Justin Blackmon headache?

Have we not learned anything from the Justin Blackmon headache? Blackmon has been a much bigger headache for Jaguar fans that it has for the Jaguars. We show less advertisements to registered users. None of this makes either a 'locker room cancer'. ![]() Quote:None of this makes either a 'locker room cancer'. Blackmon built up a lot of hope both for us as fans and for the players in the locker room. When he was suddenly suspended, that was a major distraction and a blow to player morale. We risk more of the same with a guy like Aldon Smith. There's also the added risk of having so many impressionable, young players in that locker room. It's not like an isolated incident, but rather one felony after another.

Quote:Are we all overlooking what Aldon did to get cut by the 49ers? I just see him being a really bad influence in an NFL locker room.I actually agree with you completely here. The guy might know how to get to a quarterback, but is he really worth the headaches of violent gang parties at his house, fights with teammates (including trashing their cars) and shouting "bomb" in an airport? It's kind of got a "what will he do next?" feel to it. Push an old lady off a roller coaster? Quote:What he did was outside the locker room. It's not the classic definition of a guy who trashes the quarterback behind his back or what not, but as a guy who can't control his urges to act out criminally, he's a locker room cancer all the same.

I probably have a different opinion than all of you, but I honestly don't care how bad Aldon Smith may be off the field. Yeah, it's a let down when he gets arrested... BUT if he can put up double digit sacks for a few seasons before getting in trouble again, then who would honestly care? We got the production and what we needed out of him. We'd still have Fowler and probably another pass-rusher if we're looking three years into the future. Having Fowler, Marks, Miller, and Aldon out there at the same time? Sign me up.
He chose Oakland though, so this fantasy is over. The only positive thing that comes out of this, is that we don't have to worry about a let down. Have we not learned anything from the Justin Blackmon headache? I think the first sentence is exactly why a player like Smith would be fine here. That could be the type of thing Aldon Smith needs while he attempts to overcome his issues. No Ray MacDonalds or Ahmad Brooks's here; just players who are focused on playing football. Anyways if adding Aldon Smith would completely negate all of that and corrupt them, the locker room wasn't really that strong to begin with. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Interesting timing Yeah JDR can really build an environment of support for his players....
Taking the Jaguars out of the equation at least for now, in general I'm against players with character issues being added to my team. However, if the team has strong veteran winning leadership that believes they can keep the player from deviating from the task at hand, I would be somewhat more comfortable with certain character issue players being added.
Without knowing Aldon Smith's entire background, on the surface he doesn't seem like a high level risk in a strong veteran winning leadership locker room. Aldon Smith's situation doesn't remind of anything like toxic Titus Young's situation. In the latter's case, he suckered punched Louis Delmas and in a game purposely lined up wrong. That's the type of player that doesn't belong in an NFL locker room under any circumstance. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Oakland only signed him to a one year deal. If you want him so bad, let the dust settle and look at him again in a year.
everyone point and laugh at the Raiders now. Aldon going to jail. lol

He walked into an airport security checkpoint and started telling screeners that he had a bomb because he wasn't happy with the process. He has a habit of getting liquored up then blasting down the freeway. He beat up his neighbor's car. Tell me how this guy is not toxic? He may not be as self-destructive as Titus Young, but he also doesn't have the documented mental illnesses that Young was facing. |
