Caldwell= Gene Smith 2.0?

I can't think of an above average player Caldwell brought in besides Linder and Smith.

I will tell you what the problem is its  Gus this Zen attitude does not work for me We need a coach that has a Backbone

We need a coach Like Coughlin was no more of this power of positive crap. I want a coach that is mean and wants to win

I mean Gus is like its ok you showed  some good things out there here is your participation trophy.

Quote:I honestly can't blame Caldwell. The dude is bringing in the talent. Like someone above said, we aren't seeing progestin or development. I expected Bortles will have another tough season. I saw improvement today, but that pick 6 shows me he needs to work a heck of a lot more in the film room

Where!? Is Gratz, Colvin or McCray better then Cox  and Mathis where? I don't see it? How about Cyprien is he better than Lowery ever was? What about Joeckel is he better than Monroe was? Telvin better then Daryl? Yeldon/Robinson/Gerhart better than MJD/Taylor/Jennings?

Jesus Gene didn't leave the bar real freaking high and we can't even get over it. Where's all this talent people see?

I think you're underestimating the impact of Gene Smith on this team.  Gene left Caldwell with next to nothing to work with.  What we're feeling now is still the result of the Gene Smith regime.  Caldwell has had to build this team from the bottom -- and while he's not built it far at all, Gene Smith never had to do that.  He had something to work off of, and as a result we actually saw some decent years under Gene Smith.  Most of which were thanks to Shack Harris' time as GM.  Imagine the Gene Smith era without David Garrard and Maurice Jones-Drew.

Caldwell isn't doing a good job -- at least that's how it appears at the start of year 3.  But he's not doing worse than Gene Smith.  It's an overreaction by fans who are upset that we aren't competitive yet.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

The talent is there...

The coaching is not...

We need a real coach.  Not some scrub jacked loser that rode the coat-tails of a great team.

Find a coach.  A real one.  Not a rah rah light-weight that can't hack it...

I'm over this non-sense.

As for the players...  We have them for the most part...  They're just not prepared under this coaching staff.  I think even Blank can become a true franchise QB with the proper mentorship.  This HC isn't able to get him there...  And man...  WRs that can't catch balls?  Really?

They can run routes, they can get open.  They can't catch it? There's something wrong there..

No it's the truth.  The last year gene was here the team won 2 games.  The next 2 years with Caldwell we won 4, then 3, and looks to be another bad year.  Caldwell has had an open check with picking near the top of the draft and there is not a big improvement at all.  That is fact not opinion.

Yeah, and during that 2 win year MJD was on his last legs.  He was basically the reason we won the game against the Colts.   Gene Smith managed to take a team that looked like it was 4 years from a rebuild, and turn it into the worst team in the league (but still somehow fails to get the #1 pick in the draft, not that it'd have mattered in 2013 anyway).  Caldwell hasn't brought much improvement, but he's not nearly as bad as Gene Smith.  If Caldwell were to be fired at the end of the year, our next GM would have more to work with than he did when he came in.

I am not making excuses.  My point is the GM is doing okay on the player decisions.  That awful draft is more on who was in that draft.

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

Caldwell's greatest mistake was discarding Darryl Smith who would have been an excellent OTTO.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

Sorry TED, but the Gene's Myth era was over 3 years ago.

We're looking exactly as we did 4 years ago.

There's been no improvement, even with the talent aquisition...

So to me, we've moved past Jean Smiff...  It's the coaching staff that is the issue to me.

Maybe that's what you're saying?  We had a huge gut job 4 years ago.  And we know have pretty much a new group of young talent.  What has not changed is the lack of offensive production.  To me, it seems like it's not the GM that's holding us back.  It's the HC.
