People focus to much on 1, 2, and 3 WR instead of how they line up and play for the team in scheme.

Allen Robinson is the Split End (SE).....(or X receiver) 6'3" 220 lbs (being a bigger & taller guy)

The team must have seven players lined up on the line of scrimmage. The 7th guy a WR usually opposite of the Tight End is called the Split End (SE) (a lot of times closer to the sidelines when he lines up).

A split end must be able to beat the press coverage from the CB as he is out on a island of sorts, having quick acceleration to get open and because he blocks the safety on run blocks be a good blocker.

Allen Robinson was the Split End in College, read this article below...

http://www.fanaticalyankee.com/2015-nfl-...-nfl-draft

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Flanker or (Z receiver) is sometimes considered the best WR on the team by some, but he is off of the line of scrimmage (usually on the opposite side of the Split End) to avoid Jamming (contact 5 yards of line of scrimmage). A lot of times the flanker is a smaller and faster than the split end.

Allen Hurns lines up on the right side on the depth chart which is the Flanker (Z receiver) being 6'1" 198 he can kind of play either as he is both strong & fast which has made this confusing as some depth charts have them swapped. Lee is a good example of a flanker small & fast and usually plays off of the line to avoid jamming.

The Slot Receiver or (Y receiver) is Julius Thomas whom many consider the best target for Blake Bortles, but he is injured. It is true that M. Lewis is the starting TE but Clay Harbor might line up as the Y more than Lewis in the game vs the Panthers as Lewis is considered more of a blocking TE.

The balanced (or 12 personnel grouping) as seen below;

SE TE LT LG C RG RT TE
Q FL
RB

That might be a common formation used against the panthers with Allen Robinson on the far left (as he was during last season), Lewis being on the far right (as he is stronger

Robinson is just awkward in a way. I don't know. He doesn't seem to get much separation.

Greene played his little heart out today though.

Hurns plays with a fire that is remeniscent of Keenen.
Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.

1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle.

2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

I am convinced if Lee can stay healthy and the Double A team can just get their hands up more consistently that we might actually have a solid quad of receivers with Greene sprinkled in here and there.

I am not going to lie. I gave AR15 more credit than he deserved and actually thought he looked like a potential #1. He reminded me of an Anquan Bolding last year before he got hurt. Big body, tough catches, reliable target.

The truth is, we have no WR's. In todays NFL, you need a superstar WR who can get open to help out your QB. This is the absolute root cause of our offensive issues. That opens up EVERYTHING for other guys. Looking back at the draft, I didn't think it was a huge deal to pass on Cooper at the time, but now it looks like it may have been a huge mistake.

The good news is we will be in the position to pick a stud WR again in 2016, and they better do it.

Quote:Hurns...he looks like he wants it more. I hope AR15 gets out of that preseason funk he was in.
I'm betting there is an injury we don't know about. This team is a post-op ward.

If Allen Hurns can learn to catch every catchable ball that was thrown to him, he'd be pretty damn good. He's a good route runner and knows how to get open, find the gaps in the defense. The problem is he is very inconsistent catching the ball.

Allen Robinson is overrated here. He's not that fast, only thing good is he's got height, but worse, he drops catchable balls.

I feel you, but in his defense, that's not really the player we saw last season who was seemingly catching pretty much everything in his vicinity. I'm going to go out on a limb and posit we witnessed a young man going through a subtle loss of confidence as the result of that first, critical drop compounded by whatever injury we saw him leave the game with.

Why is it that whenever a player that "flashed" a bit last year is stinking it up, hes got to be injured? Fans made that excuse with Mike Thomas, Derek Cox, Alualu, Joeckel, McCray, and now Robinson. Maybe the dude just stinks and is overrated?

That list of people you just named is like the elephant in the room. You know its there, but when you see it written out, it hurts.

It hurts.

Don't forget. People defended Gene Smith until he was shown the door and accused all doubters of not knowing football, and you name it.

I suppose that's possible TJ956. I don't personally think an injury is the root cause of what we saw yesterday. I think it's a confidence thing.

Then again, you could be right. He might stink but let's be honest about this. Did his play last season give you any reason to seriously consider that possibility? Highly unlikely. Let's hope that yesterday was simply an anomaly. However, if this continues into next week and beyond, then we would have to face the very real possibility that we overrated this kid.
