I'm very surprised this is the thread that has made it to 13 pages.  Of course I'm not helping by contributing.  I made my obligatory comments about experience related to what college teaches but this isn't too much to get keyed up about.

 

I think if we had the illusion of 300 plus yards of offense with a 30-27 loss, we wouldn't have the threads we have.  Unfortunately, this team isn't built or ready yet.  I'm hopeful they will put it together and figure things out together to show us real progress for the first time in a long time.

Did someone really have to say it?  By merely acting as if you know the playbook, what play was called, and what the options were for the QB, fans were letting their actions speak volumes.  Bortles was asked about them questioning the play calling, and he was spot on with his response.  If you're offended, ask yourself why.  You've already proved his point multiple times in this very thread.

You question the play calling you know little to nothing about.  You've already admitted you don't know the playbook, or the calls for every play.  You've called it predictable, but you can't really back that up with the play calls to show that it actually IS predictable play calling.  You're confusing assumption with fact.

I'm not the one questioning the play call.  I also pointed out that Bortles admitted to telegraphing the pass on that play, and took the blame for the mistake.  So, I'm not quite sure what your point is here about me being disingenuous. 

 

The entire premise of this thread is based on more than one play.  It focuses on the play calling in general, and how the fans think they know more than the guys who created the playbook and who execute it.  They don't.

We all see the personnel on the field, the alignments, who is filling what gaps etc etc. If you pay enough attention, you can predict tendencies of the offense. You can anticipate what the play might be. This is why the defense studies film. So again, you keep asking me if I knew the play. I say it doesn't matter what the [BAD WORD REMOVED] play was. Bortles telegraphed everything he was going to do before the snap. He made it easy for the defender to squat on the route and get the easy pick-6. I'm more curious why Bortles was so upset, he even bothered mentioning the fans. He clearly is insecure and made that known right after he threw the pick and hung his head down in shame.

My daughter is in pre-k3 and already knows the run, run, incomplete pass playbook. Still had a couple years to learn our complex playbook.

As it stands the team in year 3 isn't much better than the team Caldwell blew up.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but didn't this controversy start in the first place by Bortles asserting fans who question the play calling made by coaches and executed by players are ill equipped to do so intelligently?


If so, isn't it safe to assume the coaches and players know the playbook? Didn't you just admit you don't know the playbook?


If so, how can you assert the play called wasn't the best possible play when you don't know what alternative there was to be used in that situation?


What am I missing here? Help me understand.
