The Giant Fire Gus & Dave Thread (MERGED)

Quote:I'm not a Gus fan, so keep that in mind as you read this. As bad as things seem at the moment, (and that loss to Indy and the way it happened does indeed suck...) let me ask a question; who would you replace Gus with that ya'll think you could guarantee would do better than Gus who is actually available and would be willing to come here?Dude. It's not hard to do better than Gus. Maybe the new coach actually gets some wins. If he doesn't? Then it's no worse than what would happen if Gus was here. He's garbage and someone new might provide some new blood to this team. Marrone could take over and more than likely do better than lose to a 40 year old QB. As bad as things seem at the moment, (and that loss to Indy and the way it happened does indeed suck...) let me ask a question; who would you replace Gus with that ya'll think you could guarantee would do better than Gus who is actually available and would be willing to come here? Teams often have a way of "correcting" things. Sometimes, they over-correct. Coughlin was tough and strict, and it wore on the players. So we went with a player coach in JDR. TC got involved with free agents and drafts, so naturally we had a 3-headed monster of JDR/Shack/(financial guy, cant remember his name anymore) to follow him. When that didn't work, we went back to a more "disciplined" approach and experienced approach in Mularkey (famous for pop quiz asking players random unimportant info to check if they were paying "attention to detail"). Khan, on his first year here, saw a coaching staff built with tons of names that made people think of a coaching all-star team. It was a very experienced coaching staff, from top to bottom. This of course, was a failure under Mularkey. Naturally, the following hires went the extreme end of the pendulum with a very inexperienced GM, an inexperienced HC, inexperienced assistants, and inexperienced players. And now we are back full circle again...experienced HC, experienced GM, experienced assistants....less "friendly" more discipline. Quote:Except it didn't, because we lost. So you rather we just uh, don't stunt and rely on the awesome pass rushing skills of Clemons, Odrick, and Branch? The only reason we even got to Hasselbeck was because of stunts!
Just officially put me down on the fire Caldwell and Gus petition. Caldwell is pretty good at figuring out who not to keep, he just sucks at finding replacements. This team is garbage worse then Gene and JDR teams.
I just googled Marrone for more information and ran into this thread on r/buffalobills: https://www.reddit.com/r/buffalobills/co...one_fired/

We would be so much better had we just drafted the first rounders that the media said we should.
2010 Earl Thomas 2011 Ryan Kerrigan and Andy Dalton. Would have to trade up slightly for Dalton. Not nearly as expensive as trading for Gabbert though. 2012 Blackmon was the guy and he did washout. 2013 Joeckel was the guy again and he is ok. 2014 Khalil Mack to pair with Kerrigan 2015 Amari Cooper This isn't really hindsight either as it was who we were predicted to take at the time. Hindsight to me would be taking all the surprise good players EX. Russell Wilson and the like.
Quote:The only downside is that it guarantees that your young QB is playing in his 4th different offense in 4 years. I don't think he knows what a prepared team looks like.

Quote:I just googled Marrone for more information and ran into this thread on r/buffalobills: https://www.reddit.com/r/buffalobills/co...one_fired/ I find it hard to believe that we can look a whole lot worse then we do right now with Gus as HC. I mean, I don't even remember looking this bad and unable to score when MM was coaching the Jags and he went 2-14. Of course, it's possible I just put that season out of my mind.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Quote: I find it hard to believe that we can look a whole lot worse then we do right now with Gus as HC. We we're just as bad. Quote:Because he might hamper this juggernaut we're building here? If Gus is to be fired, I don't think the replacement is in this staff. The thing that concerns me is that the players REALLY like Gus. We've had some bad teams before where the locker room is a mess (Mularkey). We had not so bad teams that locker rooms were a mess (JDR). That these players still believe in Gus is big, because as we've seen before, other coaches could have lost the locker room already. Judging by many of the Bills fans comments, I get the feeling that they think Marrone would lose this locker room if he had been here from the beginning instead of Gus. That said, I am very disappointed in Gus' lack of development. Bad challenges, time management, gameplan (ugh against NE), I think those are definitely very much against him. I very much like Gus, and I think the players do too. I mean, I sat in one of his meetings before and I was prepared to suit up and play a game...he has that ability. I can't remember which former player it was, but he said NFL players aren't dumb. They know when a coach is "faking" it and don't know what they are doing. If that's the case, then Gus will eventually lose this locker room...regardless of how likeable he is. Quote: I find it hard to believe that we can look a whole lot worse then we do right now with Gus as HC. Quote:We we're just as bad.Yeah, we were, but no one saw Mularkey as a long-term answer. The overwhelming sentiment on this board was that Mularkey was merely here to fill time until Gene Smith was fired. Nobody looked at him as a savior and the man to lead this team back from the brink. With Bradley, the hopes and expectations were there. Quote:If Gus is to be fired, I don't think the replacement is in this staff. The thing that concerns me is that the players REALLY like Gus. Quote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvMi-Lx_0vc Are you sure that's a Gus impersonation, and not Hulk Hogan coaching the team? Sure, it'd need a couple more "brother," "jack," and "dude's" but, I got a strong Hulk Hogan vibe from that video.

Quote:For what its worth, I thought Gus Bradley was a terrible choice. Not that it matters now. Sigh.I felt like Roman would have been a better pick, but I'll admit that I was plenty excited by Bradley's hire after seeing a few press conferences and reading a few articles. My first misgiving about Bradley, actually, was the coordinators he hired right out of the gate. Quote:Would you like your boss if you perform horribly then rewarded with a high five and ice cream? I wouldThe thing is, those Bills fans seem to think Marrone has all the characteristics we hate about Gus and hated about Mularkey in addition to being a jerk about it. That's not the direction I want to go. |
