The Giant Fire Gus & Dave Thread (MERGED)

I'm disappointed so far. I thought the meltdown would be much more intense by now. We are way lacking on polls especially.

Treestone is 1. FBT is another, I'm sure.

Quote:Who are these players, I'm curious, that you think is getting away with it because we aren't measuring in wins (which by the way, isn't really true, and surprised that people still don't understand Gus' mantra 3 years in).

Also, NFL contracts aren't guaranteed so....

It's absolutely true, and it's going to keep being true until Gus is gone. This we tried hard stuff was tired last year, but now it's "built", and we're still in try hard mode. It's an attitude which hasn't worked at all. And nfl contracts are definitely guaranteed when consistently poor performances don't result in changes but "we'll learn from it" three years running.

Quote:Does it matter if the players like the coach? Yes, sometimes. Harbaugh was not very liked but guess what, they were winning a ton. It wasn't until they started losing that you saw problems.

Give me a hated Harbaugh coach going to a SB and 3 straight NFC championships any day of the week.

Gus is very up beat and good for him. But you have to win in this league. No matter if players like you or not

And you once again completely missed my point.

The players KNOW a bad coach if they see one. As one player said before "you can't fake" coaching in the NFL. They may like Gus, but if the players feel he is holding the team back, then they'd turn on him because their performance and thus their jobs, rely on Gus doing his job and not just "showering them with sprinkles". My point is that these players inside the Jaguars locker room, they KNOW if Gus is the man for the job. And if he's not, we'll start hearing "leaks" from unnamed sources on how there's problems in the locker room.

It happened here with Mularkey, happened to Mangini in Cleveland. Especially now in the internet age where "unnamed sources" is the king? If Gus is really the problem as most of us think is the problem (I don't think he's the ONLY problem, which is where I differ with most on this board), it'll be out there soon enough.

I wouldn't give a single one of these polls the time of day my friend. Guess again.

I'm just about convinced that Caldwell in the end is going to be worse than Gene or Shack. We've spent how many draft picks and we still can't put together a competent receiving core or secondary.

So you can't name a player then?

By the way, Winston Guy, Cam Bradfield, and Mike Brewster would like to say hello to you.

I don't think firing mid season works out all that great, but there are exceptions and sadly we have one on our hands that must be let go. I really could care less if Blake has to learn yet another offense or not, bring in another QB to compete if you have to. This is beyond unacceptable, it should be damn near impossible to lose to that Indy roster. Any other team in the NFL would've beat this Colts team out there today w/ no Luck. The showing we put out there today is akin to the 0-16 Lions team a few years back. Complete ineptitude across the board, players, coaches, you name it. Give Marrone(sp) a chance to show his worth and if you win 3-4 games give him a nice deal WITHOUT an opt out option and lock him up. He took an average Bills team to 9-7 and at this point I would celebrate like we went 19-0 and won a Superbowl if we went 9-7. I am for keeping Caldwell for now, but Dave needs to do like he does with his players... When he sees a bust/bad player he deals him/cuts the ties. Cut the Gus bus loose.

I think Caldwell will be a very solid GM if he can replace Bradley with a coach that knows how to build a competent staff and develop the talent he's given.

In fairness, I believe Badfield and Brewster were Smith "finds".

Winston Guy has a grudge against the Jags. Dude played hard on ST to make sure we noticed him...

The more I think about the game, the more I get pissed off.

I think Bradley did his job, he kept the young guys bought in this far, didn't lose the locker room, and made Jacksonville an attractive place for future free agents. Now the roster is pretty much here and it's time to turn it over to a winner.

I truly, truly think Gus Bradley is a good person, and that he has invested a lot of his time on this team.

With that said, he hasnt offered anything remotely close to being a reason for optimism. His time is through. Ideally this would have worked out, but you just cant argue with the results. It's all bad. Cant win in the nfl averaging 13 points a game on offense. Cant do it.

My point in bringing up Bradfield, Brewster, and Winston is that...clearly we have a precedent here. Brewster was our starting center and Winston was our starting FS. Bradfield was a backup swing tackle. When they didn't perform, they got cut. They didn't just get benched and continued to "cash their checks"...as the other poster seemed to indicate happened or is happening under Gus' culture. No, they lost their job.

For all the faults that can legitimately be placed on Gus, this just isn't one of them.

Well, you got me there. Caldwell has made a few changes in 3 years. Everybody clearly learned their lesson when these scrap heap rejects were released... by Caldwell, after Gus kept playing them long after it was clear they were terrible.

Real talk:

who are your head coaching alternatives?

It's hard to lure a proven commodity to JAX.

He seems like a good motivational speaker, but at this point he's proven he isn't a head coach in the NFL.
