Didn't Mark Brunell pass for like 4,300 yards in the 90's?

Yea 4367 yards in 96. He also had 19 TDs that season, but 98 and 00 was his best TD years as a Jag with 20. However in 05 he had 23 with the skins.

Seems like Gus may be getting into his ear with his defensive (play not to lose) mentality .... probably emphasizes protecting the ball and let our D win the game.

I don't really see that. Blake loves pushing the ball down the field. I think we out think ourselves in the redzone instead of just doing what we do well

Blake has disappeared twice in the second half.

He didnt yesterday, he put the team twice in position to win with a FG, something Tom Brady won super bowls doing, his QBR was 73 yesterday

 

Missed FG and one terrible snap cost us late

We do not use the middle of the field. How often do they actually throw a pass caught between the numbers? Everything is always on the sideline.

 

I think it is partly play calling. But it is also the receivers/TE's not getting separation and Blake wanting to avoid interceptions because he is not trusting his throws.

 

You cannot keep throwing against the CB's. They are the best defenders on coverage, they have to be able to take advantage of LB's, nicklebacks, and safeties in coverage, and they do not seem to be doing that.

I'll give it to Blake the one time for getting them in position to win at the end of the game.


But, that last time it wasn't Blake. Yeldon snapped off a huge gain to get them close to FG range. Then, Bortles had a ton of pressure and floated one up there as he was falling backwards that AROB (IIRC) somehow miraculously caught as he was falling down with a couple defenders by him. So, IMO that was Yeldon and a whole lot of luck.


Blake did look really sharp in the first half.

I wish they would have him in position to use his legs more. He's very athletic and can make big conversions for 1st downs more through the game.

As young as the team is, it is no surprise really.  It's one thing to make plays, and another to score TDs.

 

Agree with above - practice red-zone, and two-minute drills..

 

Some things have improved, no question about that.

JT is the missing redzone piece. He won't be needed as much between the 20s, but redzone yes.

Because our running game inside the 10 is no threat.  We can't pick up a more than a yard running the ball so we're forced to throw it 2-3 times and teams are teeing off on the pass because they don't have to worry about the run.
