Nfl Officiating

Quote:I completely understand the rule as written; it is a double standard as it is currently written.Automatic first downs are reserved for personal fouls, which are penalties deemed to be blatant rules violations that either endanger safety, or are poor sportsmanship. They exist to discourage bonehead play, and are even in all respects. The same week that Golden Tate scored the TD with the taunt, a defensive back was flagged for taunting as he high stepped an INT in to the endzone. This score stood as well. If you dont like personal fouls, get mad at players for committing them regularly. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
2013 NFL Officiating has been horendous. This may be exaderation but it seems as if they've become vindictive...

NH3... Quote:Bad calls happen at every game. If they all lost game checks for making bad calls, none of them would get paid. They do need a system in place to where mistakes are counted against them. If/when rhey reach that majic number they are Flagged... Replay included because there has been some BAD Calls made here lately... NH3...

The refs are human and will make mistakes..what makes me crazy is when they don't hustle and let themselves be out of position to make a call. That and not every team and every player is equal to the refs. You can blast Rivers, Big Ben and Vick.....don't even get near a manning or Brady. You know they have issues when during the game the retired head of the refs makes comments about the calls being bad.
All in all they are giant steps above their college counterparts in any conference.
Quote:Officiating league wide is a joke. Such parity based on who you are; officials should lose their game check when they make a bad call. I'm struggling to watch the NFL. I hate new rules and favoritism .... i'm rooting for Merriweather to take more people out !!! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I'm struggling to watch the NFL. I hate new rules and favoritism .... I'm rooting for Merriweather to take more people out! I don't think Brandon Meriweather meant that literally. He used the wrong words to make a good point. My injuries thread has a link about that. If you think the NFL's new rules are stupid, watch a college player get ejected for targeting.
Officials are trash, especially for Jags as we get the worst of them. Not an opinion either, better refs go to the better games. What's more aggravating is when they spend 5 min reviewing a play then proceed to make the wrong call. Wish NFL was officiated more like MLB
Does anyone have a favorite referee or hope a certain crew works at Jaguars games?
I don't think there is one post on here that you wouldn't have seen one year ago, five years ago, etc.
Same old, same old.

I think that the officiating is getting more and more intrusive in the game. That is my complaint, way too much stoppage of action. Especially on holding and such, these penalties just really detract from veiwing pleasure. But the NFL loves them cause more penalties = more commercials. I hate how the first couple plays of a drive are cut off by commercials too. That is nonsense. They pump 3 hours of commercial for like 60 minutes of game play, cut that garbage out!
Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! Media on the Brain Link! Quote:Peyton must store oxygen in that forehead of his. No way I'd still be alive after all that choking.
I can understand getting a call wrong in real time. What is concerning to me is that there seems to be a lot of botched calls this year after being reviewed.
It bothers me when the league explains a bad call as a misunderstanding of a rule by the head ref. That seems shady. Quote:I think that the officiating is getting more and more intrusive in the game. They do slow down a game, though. So you're ok if they don't call penalties against your team's opponents? Yeah, I didn't think so. I've yet to see a game where "the first couple plays of a drive are cut off by commercials." Perhaps you were in the bathroom?

"There is no foul on the play. He ran through the holding."
HAHAHA officials are a joke. They get paid 6 figure to literally not make the right call. Bring back the replacements. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Yesterday was a very typical NFL day of very bad officating in just about every game. Maybe the NFL needs to look at full-time refs..and fines for some of the really horrible calls. Add to this the possibilty that a ref was confrontational with a player.......it is not getting better
Quote:"There is no foul on the play. He ran through the holding." I know no referee actually said that, but you just reminded me of a flag thrown during the Chiefs/Broncos game. After a ball was thrown to a wide open receiver in the end zone, the back judge put his flag on the ground despite the fact there were no defensive players within 10 yards of him. John Parry said, and I quote, "There is no foul for pass interference. The ball had already hopped." LOL What? Who cares about the ball hopping; there was nobody in position to interfere with the receiver! Before the next snap, Al Michaels said, "They changed the call." The defense was penalized for taunting. Automatic first down LOL. Quote:Yesterday was a very typical NFL day of very bad officating in just about every game. Maybe the NFL needs to look at full-time refs and fines for some of the really horrible calls. Add to this the possibilty that a ref was confrontational with a player. It is not getting better At first I thought the player would get fined for criticizing an official, but a teammate said he heard it too, so the NFL is investigating it. That was not the first time an official was heard cussing. Tony Corrente cussed at another official with his microphone on last year and was fined his whole paycheck lol. I expect that umpire to suffer the same consequence if the accusation can be proven. Jeff Triplette is always bad, so I am not surprised at all he screwed us up big time on the fumble recovery. Why didn't Mike Periera fire him years ago? I understand that's not a reviewable play, but because he did review it Triplette should have seen the indisputable video evidence a Jaguar recovered the football. Dick Stockton and Ronde Barber saw it. Triplette just hates the Jaguars and will say crap like that to help us lose. A 49ers player is strongly convinced the referee in New Orleans wanted the Saints to win because his hit on Drew Brees was not too high, too low, or with the helmet so it should have been 49ers ball at midfield when a teammate recovered a fumble. I did not see the play but I know based on the description he was not roughing the passer. Quote:Yesterday was a very typical NFL day of very bad officating in just about every game. Add to this the possibilty that a ref was confrontational with a player.......it is not getting better I agree 10000% that the NFL needs to seriously consider Full-Time Officials. The players and coaches prepare all week for a game. How can an official do the same when that person has another job??? The officiating in the Lions-Steelers game yesterday was horrible. The Lions deserved to lose the game. However, the officials missed multiple overt calls for both teams. This is far too often the norm in NFL games. A week before, I was actually praising Bill Leavy and his crew for their performance in the Lions-Bears game. That was much more of the exception than the norm.
The NFL has discussed the idea of having full-time officials in the past and every time they voted against it. I think they don't see a benefit because each crew works only one day a week.
Once Al Michaels said during a reviiew Ed Hochuli really needs indisputable video evidence to overturn a call because he is a lawyer. We show less advertisements to registered users. Yet, the league is foolish for being concerned about many of their current officials quitting if the officiating job becomes full time. My response to those officials is show them the door. The league would be far better off having officials that currently don't work for the NFL that became full time employees.

So the NFL is only unwilling to have full-time officials because of retainment concerns? When I looked for jobs at much smaller organizations, I often ran into this: employers who only want full-time shift workers. If the NFL did that too, what kinds of guys would you expect to wear black and white stripes? Quote:I know no referee actually said that, but you just reminded me of a flag thrown during the Chiefs/Broncos game. Oh he said it, loud and clear. |
