Iowa Hawkeyes

#1

They are 7-0.  And the rest of their schedule is Maryland, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, and Nebraska.  They could easily finish the season undefeated.  Somehow they missed Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, and Penn St from the other division.

I wonder if an undefeated team from a major conference could be left out of the 4 team playoff.

Go undefeated and win the big 10 championship and I would think they are in....

Especially if they beat OSU.

If the Hawkeyes finish that schedule undefeated, they have to get past the East division champion at the BTCG. So one of Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State probably will play against them this year.

Of course an undefeated team can miss the playoffs. What we learned last year was Big 12 teams can't get in because there is no conference championship game, despite being part of the Power 5.

Who they beat in the BTCG is irrelevant. If you win the conference championship, you are in the driver's seat for a playoff game.

I doubt it. But some people wanted Florida State left out last year.

Everybody was mad at TCU and Baylor being left out just because the Big 12 has no conference championship game. That is what I will always remember about the first playoff selection.

If they go undefeated and beat Michigan State, Michigan or OSU in the B1G Championship game I think you have to put them in.

I was thoroughly impressed wit the win at NW. Injuries have hit the team hard and they rolled on through. I hope the bye week is enough time for a few key guys to heal up. The schedule isn't tough here on out but teams like Indiana won't be easy wins especially if the injuries are the way they are.

Here is the problem: There are five power conferences and only four teams get in the playoffs. What if Utah, LSU, Baylor or TCU, and Florida State all finish undefeated? An undefeated team would miss the playoffs. Chances are it would be Iowa. So the Hawkeyes will need someone else to lose.

Iowa = Pitt's only loss.   Wallbash

A last second FG to win the game.
