Serious question

I know people want to wait for the bye but whats the use- track record speaks for itself. Nothing is going to correct 8-29 in a single week. If we're giving up on the season, at least see what Marrone has to offer.

It sucks because I really wanted to believe Gus was our guy, it just isn't working out.

Marrone is a slightly better option IMO, but not by much. I agree with you though.

I agree. I'm not sold on Marrone either but we gotta see what we have. Interim for the remaineder of the season should be sufficient

I think two things are in play:

1. Khan and Caldwell want to give Bradley every opportunity to turn this around before giving up on him, and...

2. Khan doesn't want to bring a hapless team with an interim coach promoted days ago to London as he tries to build the brand over there.

A third factor possibly in play is that Caldwell might not believe that anyone currently on the coaching staff would do any better with the team than Bradley, and he's content to let Bradley play out the string and either figure it out or get a pink slip for Christmas.

Still, though, if ever there was a situation in which an early-season head coaching change was warranted, this is it. The team has young talent, and Caldwell has done a good job with the rebuild. New England aside, the losses have more to do with mental breakdowns and poor coaching decisions than they do talent level. That setup almost screams for the reins to be handed to someone else to see if he can do any better with the talent afforded him. Marrone would still be the Bills coach if he hadn't taken the money and ran, and I think losing sight of that in defense of sticking with Bradley is a big mistake.

Well Reasoned post - one of the few I've seen (myself included) in a long while.

My counterpoints:

1.) We HAVE given Bradley enough time. 37 games. Compared to other coordinator hires as first time HC, he has gotten a lot of tim for little reason.
  • Mangini was run out of NY in 3 seasons (48 games) but had 2 actual winning seasons during that time and still got fired. In fact, Bradley had 25 losses over the course of his first two seasons, the same number that Mangini had over 3 full seasons. Let that sink in. And he still got run out of town.

  • McDaniels: 28 games before he was fired.

  • Spags: Approached Gus level of horrendous. Only got 3 years (48 games) and the only reason he got a 3rd was because his second year was 7-9.
What has Gus done to deserve a 3rd season in the first place, current state of the Jags aside?

2.) This is probably the correct answer (nice case analysis) but we're still fielding a hapless product on field. Coach or not, we still suck, though I imagine our product will be a bit more refined with continuity at HC vs a first week interim HC.

3.) More than anything, we have to really find out. And even if that is true, a firing sends the message all teh way down to the coordinators to shape up or get out.

Ok I'm so confused...why has Bradley not been fired yet and why this week has nothing been changed. It's like nothing even happened this past Sunday that we need to fix.

1. Is 37 games not enough time to turn things around? Is it not enough time to beat a backup, 40 year old QB lead Colts for the lead in the division? Is it not enough time to beat the 2nd worst team in the league led by a mistake prone rookie QB?

2. It already is a hapless team. What, do you think if we fired Gus that we'd goto London with a sup par coach? Newsflash, we will regardless. I'm glad Shad Khan would be more worried about building a brand in London instead of...ya know... the place where the team is actually located.

Alot of people said 6 wins this year would be a reasonable expectation. Do people realize that 6-10 is not even a WINNING SEASON? Do you see 5 more wins in our future? I sure as hell dont.

Its a joke that people (not you specifically) are making excuses for a 3rd year coach that cant even come close to a WINNING SEASON.

So, I have a honest question for everyone wanting Gus and Dave fired right.

When they were first hired, they gave Gabbert a chance their first year, and quickly realized that he was not gonna cut it. Going into the next NFL Draft, they surprised effectively the world by drafting their guy with Bortles.

Most people said their clock starts ticking after that for 3 years? What happened to that general sentiment that their clocked started once they got their QB?

I know the team has continued to not meet expectations (though I feel many people had inflated expectations), and everyone is frustrated. But that I feel that is more because the Jaguars have not really been relevant for 10 years, everyone is generally impatient and just cannot take any more. But I remember a lot of the national press and posters here making comments to that effect.

This team lost 2 games in a row to teams we should have beaten. Why is this so hard to grasp? We should be a playoff contender, not a cellar dweller.

Maybe Gus can right the ship and pull off a 7-9 record. But just because the qb is in his second year doesn't give the head coach a pass... The team has the talent to have won the last 2 games... The didn't. That is on the coach's head. That's how leadership works... The more you know, right?

Personally, while I really like Gus, the most aggravating thing is the mental mistakes this team makes.   Mistake after mistake after mistake.   Every play a mistake.    Why does this team make so many mental errors?   And we've been hearing about it for 3 years now.   I think that falls on the coaching staff.

The next coach has to somehow coach the mistakes out of these guys.

You may want to prepare for Bradley finishing the year regardless of what some segment of the fans demand. If you have been here long enough then you shouldn't be confused as to why he is still here. You may not agree with it, but there are plenty of reasons why Caldwell is not firing him in week 5 of year 3 with us being potentially one game out of first place in our division. The frustrating part? We have given away golden opportunities to take the lead in the division. The other side of the coin? We can get within 1 game of 1st with a win and colts loss. And that scenario is extremely plausible. The bye actually would come at a perfect time.

It is indeed plausible that the Pats whoop up on Indy. Where your little plan falls apart is the part where you have the Jags beating Houston. Hoyer will be able to stand in the pocket all day while we rush 3 (plus scrub Alualu) and drop into a soft zone. Hoyer can basically pick a wide open Hopkins, wide open Shorts, check down to Foster who can break a few tackles, or lightly trot for a first down. Gus will sit idly with his hands on his knees woth a blank look on his face and lose a challenge or two for good measure. If Bortles survives he may throw for 350 yds and a few TDs but it won't matter, his margin of error is zero with our horrible defense.
