Quote:I still love the response that I got (back in July of 2014) when I questioned the analytics of signing a white RB to carry the workload as a primary RB for a 4 year period (which was the term of Toby's contract).

Somebody responded with Larry Csonka.

Yes, we need to go back 45 years .....

... as JagFan1 stated ...... Slowby is terrible. I still remember that Gerhorse thread when we first signed him smh lol...

You know... the Packers should question the racial analytics on wheter or not Jordy Nelson should be their top WR when healthy. That should tell them everything they need to know, right?

If anybody is breaking down football analytics by RACE out there...  just wow.  Why?!  I doubt anyone who thinks that way actually gets paid by an actual football team to form opinions on who to sign or draft.

My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Welcome to Jag MB logic...did you know Bernard Pierces' block was a dumb move because he is a black RB?  :whistling:

Gerhart doesn't inspire a great deal of confidence with many fans, that much is certain. The fact is however, if Yeldon and DRob are on the mend then Toby is our logical alternative. The guy is pulling in a ton of money from this gig so play him!

It's not like we were exactly setting the world on fire with Yeldon or DRob either, so what difference does it make? I mean, were either Yeldon or DRob so significant during any game that you could point to them and say, 'they won the game for us' the way that bucs fans could say that of martin? I don't think so.

So play Toby Gerhart and let him earn a little of that paycheck. At the very least, it will allow Yeldon and DRob some more time to heal up.

He has 10 yards this year and he's even worse blocking.  He's going to get BB killed.

Toby's like a Hooker with Aids.  Just because you paid her to come back to the hotel doesn't mean you need to use her in attempt to satisfy your investment.

Why are we even keeping him and pierce if we are gonna use them so sparingly?

It's official: Dave whiffed on Toby in a big way.

Has there been any updates on Yeldon's groin or Pierce's concussion? It sounds like DRob may be only a couple weeks away from returning.

I know he had the fumble which many felt cost the Jaguars the game against the Bucs, but Corey Grant should get the start at RB in my opinion... he can do a much better job than Toby.

Toby is a cheap player that we can cut after the year. I don't see how it was such a big whiff. They just got a fill in RB until they got one in the draft this year.

That's the point - he is NOT cheap.  He's getting $3M a year, which is a huge amount to pay a 3rd string RB.  He basically is equal to Pierce who is significantly cheaper and there were other guys out there who could have been had for less money.

However, it won't matter next year - no way does he make the roster again.

Like you said he won't make the roster next year and that's all that matters really. Like he was supposed to be the starter last year and 3 mill was cheap for that. And honestly with the cap situation it really doesn't matter we can just drop him after the year and it's like it never happened. It was really a no risk pickup by Dave I'm not sure why people call it a bust like we spend Suh money on him. He was simply a fill in RB for a year or two.

Stop Gap.

Insurance in case Drob didn't progress.

The plan was never Toby long term.

Agreed.  People act like he's getting paid top tier money, and this team is hurting for cap space, so we should cut him.  He's affordable, and he is someone who fills a role.  It's tough to fault him for the fact that he's been limited in his touches when healthy, just as it's not his fault that he's had to deal with some injury issues.

There was some hope that he'd come in and exceed expectations based on his pedigree, but realistically, he was just as much a band aid free agent signing as someone like Marks was when they brought him in.  While Marks has panned out and got a new deal, Gerhart is just plodding along.  The fact that someone wants him cut because he whiffed on a block is funny enough.  If we cut everyone who blew an assignment on this team, we'd have to forfeit the season.  He made a mistake.  Big deal.  He provides solid depth on a team that has better options ahead of him on the depth chart.  That's his reality.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
