Match-up of the Week: Davon House vs DeAndre Hopkins

#21

Quote:It's by no means the measure i use to judge DBs

But it is the measure i use to judge a FA brought in here to step up and make plays.. which he has.. but no generated turnovers. There's no reason that he shouln't have at least a couple of picks this year
It's a double-edged sword...

We can't even muster pressure, let alone a sack, so our DBs have a bigger challenge covering the receivers for 3+ seconds...

I'm no football expert and I haven't studied tape or anything but I've seen House close in on a receiver making a catch and jarring the ball loose multiple times throughout the year. Correct me if I'm wrong but I also haven't seen House get burned deep since Martavis Bryant in the 1st preseason game. He also had a nice pick in the endzone wiped out by a pass interference on Sample.

House is a nice corner, more than "just a guy" like Gratz, Colvin and McCray.

House is the best free agent Caldwell grabbed this offseason. Wasn't for him he would've damn near struck out. The right tackle is ok too I guess.

Dan Skuta and Julius Thomas are shaking their heads at you.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Quote:I think what's more important is our front 4 getting the pressure, and hopefully some sacks, to alter their offense.
Great in theory, but, not gonna happen!  Unless Marks sparks some magic...

But he got burnt once he the preseason so he sucks s/

2nd most pass def in the NFL shows he is holding his on concidering we have no pass rush, House is a solid player, Hopkins is gonna get his stuff because they throw it too him so much

House has played well. Especially considering the lack of pass rush being generated.

Quote:Hopkins is a player that's going to get yards. He gets like 20 targets a game. Our best chance is to minimize his yards and prevent YAC.there is just no true way to truly take him out of the game unless someone shanks him in the tunnel.
This.  I like House but Hopkins is going to get so much work that House wont be able to always stay on him.

Who said he was a shut down corner? He's a solid starter

But people are saying he is below avg

plus just because he doesnt have an int yet doesnt mean much

We have played 5 games, the most int the top CB's get in a year are like 5, he could rattle of 8 picks by the end of the year who knows

I would agree with that, but when you start putting Player X vs Player Z in thread titles, that leads me to believe that you think that said players are on par with each other. but Hopkins is  a better receiver than House is a DB

Hopkins is arguably a top 5 WR. Nobody is saying House could lock him down 1 on 1.

My overall concern is thru 5 weeks and pretty much no pressure by the front 4, why he's not scheming to blitz more. When we do, it's worked. I know it has because when it happens I'm like "look what happens when we blitz a sack/incompletion." With this qb if we rattle him, it can go downhill quickly for the Texans!

Quote:I like House, he's the only CB we have that makes plays on the football. That being said, Hopkins will probably have a big game but that is no indictment on House. Hopkins is pretty much unstoppable this year and is criminally underrated. Top 5 WR in my opinion. Gus would be foolish to leave him in single coverage.
Aaron Colvin sends his regards...
