Marcus Mariota

Tacks will have to make a decision if they are drafting high again. MM just isn't good enough to compete in this league. They will try to turn him into a pocket passer and he will go the way of Kaep. At least CK got paid before his fall.

This is hilarious, not only have Mariota garnered league-wide praise, but most experts believe the Titans have found their long term answer at QB. Maybe you haven't had the chance to fully watch him play other than a few drives out of a few games, but he has shown tremendous potential. How about we look at the first 5 games started of Luck, Bortles, and Mariota to try and bring a little objectivity into the picture.
Luck (22 years old): 1,488 yards, 118/221 ~53% 6.7 YPA 7 TD 7 INT Bortles (22 years old): 1,161 yards, 118/184 ~64% 6.3 YPA 4 TD 10 INT Mariota (21 years old): 1,239 yards, 103/161 ~64% 7.7 YPA 9 TD 5 INT Not bad for what was supposed to be a long-term project at QB. Up to this point in his career he has outperformed both Bortles and Luck relative to the comparative points in their careers, despite being younger and less 'pro-ready'.

Whatever sucess MM has will be short-lived just like all the other gimmick QBs. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
What's the gimmick? He has made accurate throws from the pocket all season long.

A rookie QB struggling to connect on throws deep down the field, that's almost unheard of. It's a low percentage play to begin with and not even the best QBs in the league rely on the deep ball for consistent success anyway. Look at the way Brady and manning have throughout their careers took the short high completion pass all the way down the field. The deep ball comes with time. Part of being a good qb is making good decisions, and the right decision is usually the one with the highest rate of success. I think it's more promising mariota has shown that trait, but you're right he absolutely needs to get better on the deep pass. I just don't think it's a major problem at this point in his development. Regardless, how does his lack of success on throws down the field entail that his success on short and intermediate throws have been gimmicky?
i think mariota is going to be a fine qb and i hate the tacks.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
While I think Mariota's first game was a little over blown, the kid has talent. Way to early to write him off yet. This could end up being a very tough division the next five years due to Mariota, Luck and Bortles. Some of you write players off way to quickly.
I havent really watched him play other than week 1 game against the bucs but on paper
Mariota still seems like a decent QB he's got a 93.2 rating, 64% 9TDs 5INTs... could it simply be that he needs better teammates? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:How did Mariota fare yesterday? He's soft like a stick of butter that's been left out by the oven all day. By they way: Anyone that uses "NFL experts" and what they say as a defense is a moron. Have you people not realized that the "NFL experts" like Terry Bradshaw, Colin Cowherd, Chris Carter, Boomer, and any ESPN expert really do not know what they are talking about? They all just spout the "en vogue" paradigm. It took those "NFL experts" up untill just now to realize that Luck isn't all that great. Something real fans that don't have cameras in front of thier faces have been saying for at least 2 years! Quote:How did Mariota fare yesterday? About as good as Dante Fowler did, production wise that is.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Mariota looked good today.

Quote:Mariota looked good today. He got very luck on that 50 yard TD to Walker, but was overall very impressive. Showed tremendous poise going through his progressions and had good accuracy in the pocket even with defenders right in his face. |
