Quote:Financially speaking.....he doesn't need the money. Rich parents from oil money I believe. As to your point, who knows. Time will tell. I see a great competitor. One who can and will adapt nicely to the nfl. Is there risk in drafting him? Definitely. If the Jaguar's GM and scouts think this is their guy.....make no mistake......they will grab him. They won't pay attention to Todd McShay and whoever else doesn't like him including me and you. No young GM is going to attach his career to a boom or bust Quarterback. And that's what Manziel is basically. Boom or Bust. And if Manziel busts, Caldwell will be gone very quickly. Why attach yourself to a wagon that looks like it's going to sink? The fact is Manziel has skills that don't always transition well into the NFL. He has a maturity problem. Not to mention he's slightly on the short side. And if Caldwell does draft him, and Manziel does bust, then Caldwell should be shown the door as soon as possible. A good quote from Rob Rang:
Right now, based on one season of play, he's more of a dazzling college athlete than future NFL Pro Bowler.
He has some exciting athletic traits that will give him a shot and might even entice a team into using a first-round pick on him. But at the end of the day, the quarterback position isn't about athleticism, it's about being a consistent and reliable passer, something Manziel still needs to prove.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I just checked out the WalterFootball.com which has one of the largest NFL Mock Draft databases on the web. I looked at the 8 most recent mock drafts posted in the last day or 2. To tell you the truth, I don't know what makes these guys experts. I am assuming these guys do a reasonable amount of research. But who knows. They may be no smarter than you guys (lol). Of the eight that I looked at, 6 had Bridgewater as their #1 pick. The remaining 2 had him #2 pick. As far as Manziel goes......he was picked all over the place. 13,6,12,29,7,6,15 & "unpicked". So 3 have him in the top ten and 3 others in the top half of the first round. I stand by my top ten prediction unless he starts stinking up the rest of the season. If you "detractors" think you know better, maybe you should all quit your day jobs and go apply at the Jaguars Front Office as a scout. Lots of traveling and the pay sucks. Also, I took a course in college. Football Scouting. You know what I learned? I didn't want to be a scout. (-:

Good points....I can't argue with any of that. Wish we had a crystal ball.

One NFL scout believes "if Russell Wilson can take a team to the Super Bowl" Texas A&M redshirt sophomore QB Johnny Manziel "can do all that and more." "He’s the reason they win -- and you can’t say anything better about a player," another NFL talent evaluator said to the Dallas Morning News' Rick Gosselin. "If you are the reason, that’s a big statement." Manziel's pocket movement is both his gift and his curse, but it is impossible to deny that the redshirt sophomore has improved as a passer this season. Our own Josh Norris ranks Manziel as his No. 3 quarterback. damn thats a pretty high praise, i dont agree with it but hey im no nfl scout.
It's also a 100% mockery.
Quote:It's also a mockery. QB wins mean absolutely nothing in the evaluation process. Zero. I guarantee you that's an antiquated, clinging to his career, scout...who probably would have voted Miggy AL MVP if he had the chance despite anyone who knows a thing about scouting knows Trout is the two time defending 'Best player in the game by far'. Quote:It's also a 100% mockery.i think he meant johnny is carrying the team by himself, pretty much the past two seasons. Quote:i think he meant johnny is carrying the team by himself, pretty much the past two seasons.Which is also a mockery. He had the two best tackles in college last year, and then Joeckel got drafted and he still has the two best OTs in the game because Ogbuehi is a monster too. Oh and Evans is a god, and they have 3 RBs that are all very good. Sure, the defense is bad but that's grasping at straws if that's what he was really trying to get at. Outside of McCarron I think Manziel has easily had the next best supporting cast in football the last handful of years. It's just a silly and erroneous statement by any measure.

Winston has a great supporting cast too. Maybe the best group of receivers in the country. A terrific trio of running backs. An elite pass catching tight end. An offensive line full of NFL prospects. And a defense that has shut down everyone since September. Should that be held against him?

Should that be held against him?Nope, just like I don't hold Teddy's schedule against him, or Mariota's offensive scheme against him. You can isolate the player and scout pro traits just fine in any situation. Unfortunately the 'scout' in that rotoworld quote does not understand this.
Some of you are arguing like you're gonna have an actual say in the draft. There's gonna be some upset people no matter who this team decides to draft. So why go to great lengths to belittle each other over an opinion?
Iono. I was really low on Manziel last year but he seems to have improved. His arm looks better but he makes some really sketchy decisions that won't work in the nfl.
I need to watch more but, as of now, I won't hate it if we draft manziel.

I really like Manziel, but his style of play right now wont work in the NFL. Can you teach him to go through reads and not rely on improv every other play? Im not sure you can coach that out of him.
