Should The Jaguars Be Actively Shopping Shorts Right Now, Like Cleveland Is Allegedly Doing With Josh Gordon?

They're surrounded by talent less players?

Quote:TMD I think you're missing the point which is that this team is bad enough to be picking #1 in May. And we could have Bridgewater AND Blackmon AND Shorts.

I am not sure it is bad enough to be a slam dunk for that top pick....I see Cleveland, Tampa, St Louis and Minnesota all as serious threats. The more picks we can stockpile the more insurance we buy in case we don't land the top pick.

Not talent less, but many of their WR's through the years weren't seen as uber WR until those QB made them into what they became.

Not sure why you automatically assume that if the Jags trade CSIII that he'll be replaced by completely talentless players. Have no faith in the GM?

Faith in the GM has nothing to do with it.  CSIII has the potential to become an elite-level WR.  Trading him off from such a needy team is senseless.  You don't build talent by giving away talent.

You've glommed onto this Trent Richardson trade deal and you're bound and determined to not be out-Browned by Cleveland.

I would want to surround my franchise QB with as many weapons as humanly possible to ease his transition. If anything I would like to see us add another big threat in the recieving game in free agency, so we can mix Shorts and Blackmon into the slot, where they both would prove matchup nightmares.

LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

The teams you listed have all had multiple games where the difference between a win and loss was 1 score, they were at least competitive the Jags on the other hand have lost by 26, 10, and 28.

NOTHING draft related right now is a slam dunk, but there's a very real chance the Jags will continue to play this way and we could keep CS3 and draft Bridgewater.

It took the team 16 years to draft a good receiver. So...lets trade him.

Quote:I am guessing Cleveland is really trying to stockpile draft choices this year, in the effort to get "their" QB. I am thinking they have their eye on Bridgewater since their current regime prefers a QB with ability to connect downfield routinely.

Should the Jags be countering this with by shopping Cecil? He's the same NFL experience i.e. 2 years, and is probably similar to Gordon in ability, if not a bit less.

If the Jags miss out on Bridgewater because of all the Cleveland stockpiling of draft choices, will it have been worth it to not have tried to stockpile our own draft choices? Our team is probably in worse roster shape than Clevelands is, and Cleveland apparently has no problem still trading young players away.

Why do we hold onto ours like they are gold or something, despite our team sucking for years??

We never seem to stockpile draft choices and instead always play it safe and steady and all we do is never improve.
I can't believe your talking about shopping shorts! He is one of the pillars of our rebuild. He is going to be an elite number 1 so lets get a couple draft choices that are very unlikely to produce more value then you trade. Mad dog I often agree with your posting but some times you turn into a Mad Dog!

Minnesota isn't great but they've lost three games by a combined 15 points, including two at the last minute. They'll be a 6-10/7-9 type team.

Quote:I think its all about the QB.

Tom Brady has crap to throw to and is 3-0.

This season should be all about solidifying the opportunity to draft "the next one" Teddy Bridgewater. ..then it will matter less who the WR are as the QB will make the WR, not the other way around.

Plus, we'll still have Blackmon who is more talented than Shorts anyway.
What a joke.  You're just arguing for the sake of arguing.

How many QBs 'make a receiver better'?  Manning, Brady, Rogers.  It's a short list.  And you're comparing anybody....ANYBODY...in this draft to them?

You've already said that you don't care one way or the other but keep advocating a trade.

Ask manning how he feels after getting welker.

It's a stupid idea to trade. CS3 for a lottery ticket.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I disagree. Elite WR beat good defenses. When that game Sunday was still undecided, Cecil wasn't doing much. It was only when garbage time ensued and Seattle was content not giving up the quick TD did Cecil start putting up some numbers.

Cecil is a good, but not elite level WR. What Blackmon did to Houston last year was an example of an elite level WR.

lets see, whats harder to get....Cecil Shorts level WR's or franchise level starting QB....?? :ermm:

Theres only one franchise level QB in this draft and if the Jags don't get the 1st overall pick, they are not getting him.

But it's not an either or situation as you're trying to make it. We can have both.

Quote:Our Jags had one of the best WR duo's in league history from 1996 to 2001....how many SB titles did that get us?

Its more about having the better QB than the opponent than having a great WR duo.

Name me 3-0 Tom Brady's receivers rght now in 5 seconds! Go!.......bet you can't....

Apples to oranges. You cannot spell Brady without a Belicick. While we are puppy loving our cheerleader coach, he is not a molecule in Coach B's universe. So I guess that is my way of telling you bad example.

As a realist I know we have the 1st and 33rd pick in the draft where we select Teddy and a bad boy defensive BAP.

My point being the Shorts, Blackmon and Bridgewater  feature would be  super bowl caliber  weaponry. That kid would sling the rock all day on anybody given that duo.

No.

He the most reliable offensive threat on the team, is young, has not run into off-field issues, has a great work ethic, and is showing the potential to be a team leader.  Considering the high likelihood we'll have a rookie signal caller next season, it's only logical to retain a player like Shorts.

I would seriously re-think being a Jags fan if they did something like that

I agree with a lot of your quote except the asking price. Cecil has probably outplayed 3rd round value. The Jags could get more than that due to his relatively young age.

To a team like Detroit who is desperate for WR, they just might do it.

I honestly don't think we could get much better than a third. He isn't even the best receiver on our team and wouldn't be a second option on most nfl teams. He is just another guy IMO.
