No touches for Denard?

#1

In the wake of TJ yeldon getting shut down in favor of Toby (4 tries in a row 2 yards to the goal) and even the Toby/Alualu combination on short yardage in the 4th debacle, why did Denard not get snaps in london?

He was missing from the injury report. Another coaches decision that boggles the mind. Especially since the Alualu play on 3 and 1 had Toby as the stretch back as a decoy. How could the coaches think that could work after Toby couldn't even follow blocking on the goal line?

Before the season started I thought that TJ Yeldon and Denard Robinson would be a one-two punch, but injuries and decisions from this coaching staff seem to suggest that will not be the case. It is a shame because Robinson is talented and we could use him, and if he could re-find his form from last season he would be more effective than Toby and Alualu, but there could be a number of reasons why he did not get any snaps. Maybe he was struggling with his recovery from his injury, maybe the coaching staff has lost patience and/or trust in him, or perhaps they simply wanted to try something different. It really is difficult to see why this coaching staff make certain decisions, but hopefully they start to give Denard some more snaps as the season progresses because he really has that home run ability, and I'd rather see him spell Yeldon than Toby and Alualu.

I expected Robinson to get more touches during the game but I never expected him to get touches in goal line situations.

That's just not his skill set.

Or Alualu.

The best option going forward would be to just keep Yeldon in there.

Agreed. I think this offense is still trying to figure what works for them. I have a strong feeling we come out of the bye much more efficient on both sides of the ball.

I'd expect to see 4-8 touches for Denard moving forward. Give him a few chances in space to do his thing.

Or at least return kicks.

Grant is on IR.

Denard didn't even get a chance to do this last week.

I was a bit mystified by that too.

I can only guess that Denard is still not fully recovered from the knee injury and they wanted to let him have the bye to recover more.

Robinson wasn't on the injury report, but I suspect he probably was having some issues with the knee that they didn't report.  It's possible he was experiencing stiffness or soreness during the pregame that prevented  him from taking the field.  I'm not concerned about him not getting any touches at all.  I'm more perplexed about the number of touches given to Gerhart in scoring situations when you had a guy who was having a great game sitting on the sideline.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

What do you expect from this coaching staff?

I would give Denard 40 carries before giving Gerhart another snap on the field.

I'd give Abry Jones some carries before Slowhart sees the ball again.

More questionable calls from the coaching staff for either leaving him off the injury report when injuried OR him being in some type of dog house with Gus.  He can definitely return kickoffs and take a few end arounds to spell TJ.

It's simple, really. Robinson hasn't been producing on the field lately, so Gus benched him to send a message. #accountability

For starters, they never used Toby or Alualu to spell Yeldon. Rather, they used these two in key short yardage situations.

Before the season the plan was to use a RB-by-jury approach until we know that TJ can handle the load, but it appears we now realize he can. At this point Denard is basically Yeldon's primary backup, only we were never at a point where Yeldon needed to be spelled.

As for Gerhart, I'm guessing Pierce just surpassed him in the rotation as the short yardage specialist, but we shall see if that's the case. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Gerhart is released at some point this season. Quite frankly, the only reason Gerhart is on the roster is because they basically felt he can always get two yards when they need it, but if that's not the case then he's really of no use at all.

Benard Pierce pled quilty to drunk driving charges to avoid jail time but will likely be suspended by the NFL.

Say what???

When did this happen?

Ugh....looks like Gerhart will remain the short yardage specialist. Scratch what I just posted about him and Pierce.
