I Can't Defend Bortles Anymore

Quote:Ever hear of Peyton and Eli? Could it be considered that those two QBs are outliers of the average? I think it could... Stafford is an SEC player, and besides the Manning brothers, is the only SEC QB I can think of that is even a starter in the NFL, and he's VERY inconsistent. I think it's fair to say that the SEC is not known for high QB play and prospects. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Ever hear of Peyton and Eli?Would you like me to list all the busts that have come from the SEC? Let's be honest.... The SEC isn't known for producing good NFL QBs. They have good defenses that prey on bad QBs. Tons of skill position talent though.... Quote:SEC teams don't produce real QBs..... Quote:Ever hear of Peyton and Eli? Quote:Could it be considered that those two QBs are outliers of the average? I think it could... Quote:Would you like me to list all the busts that have come from the SEC? There are so few quality QBs in the NFL that you can make this point about most every conference. Brady is a Michigan man, Rodgers came from Cal via Junior College, Roethlisberger was a MAC king, so on and so on and so on. Granted, the SEC does put a lot of skill guys into the League but is there really any conference out there that produces quality NFL QB talent?

Carry on back on topic my friends!
Hey I don't think the SEC is some sort of QB factory. Was just pointing out that they have produced SOME decent QBs. As Deacon said, no conference can claim to be a QB factory.

All fair points. I'm with Frailbones on this. I just think that the SEC bias is kinda annoying. They produce alot of good player, but QB factory, I think not. As unf_Nash and Deacon point out, QBs do not appear to be comming from 1 specific conference only, which makes finding one that much more difficult. The level of QB play lately does seem to be dropping off over the last few years, to be honest. Which makes BB5's play that much more refreshing. Stafford and Matt Ryan are having down years, Romo is hurt. Payton looks done, and Eli is having another disappointing year as well. Tannihill is a throw away QB and is anyone really worried about Fitzpatrick or Tyrod Taylor? Aaron Rodgers is all of a sudden throwing TDs at a rate that is alarming for him. Drew Brees appears to have fallen back to mediocrity. And then you have the game manager type QBs like MM and Bridgewater. That leaves some QBs that are having the normal great years, Brady--- and that's it. Then you have the QBs that are doing pretty darn good, your Carson Palmers, your Russel Wilsons, I guess you can put Rivers in there along with Cutler. Then you have the young flock of up and comers, Winston, Carr, Cousins that appear to be putting up good numbers and may be the new flock of elite QBs. I think BB5 fall into that category with Carr... What more can you ask for at this point?
I feel like there is another QB from the SEC that his doing pretty well. He is in charge of an 11-0 football team and in discussion for the league MVP award.
Edit. He is also doing it with probably a quarter of the receiving talent we have. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Yep forgot about Cutler and Scam Newton.

Quote:Lol, some people will say anything to bring up "SEC bias"Is there not an SEC bias? Michigan State has arguably the best wins in the country. Bama hasn't beaten anyone of relevance and lost to Ole Miss at home. Yet Bama is #2 in the country? The only reason Bama beat those teams when they were "ranked" is because they were over ranked due to..... the SEC bias.
Quote:Is there not an SEC bias?As much as I hate Bama, they will literally truck any team they meet in the playoffs. They should be ranked #1.

Quote:I've been one of his biggest advocates this season. Well then you are certainly free to find another QB who you can defend. Just pick another one, any one.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
Quote:The completion % and YPA need to improve, and should as he progresses. Considering the number of drops he's dealt with this year, some of his statistical challenges are as much the result of the targets as they are the guy throwing the ball.Completion % will improve YPA.
Quote:I feel like there is another QB from the SEC that his doing pretty well. He is in charge of an 11-0 football team and in discussion for the league MVP award. That guy sounds like a loser that has been over hyped by a bunch of loserly NFL analysists. Whoever it is you speak of, I clearly have already pre-judged him and hate his spongebob loser pants. Quote:I feel like there is another QB from the SEC that his doing pretty well. He is in charge of an 11-0 football team and in discussion for the league MVP award. While your point is well-taken, there are a lot of numbers against Cam Newton being considered a "great" QB. He does not have a very good completion percentage this season (57%), is 20th in the League in total yards and has a Passer Rating below 90. That being said, he is very effective and the Offense around him compliments his style very very well.

Quote:Who is saying he's elite? Been a fan since the jags began in Jax. I've seen all the players and coaches come through here. I'm not saying Blake isn't good. I'm saying let's stop attaching these franchise records to his name to try and prop that up. The records here are small compared to most other teams. It's like saying Steve Beuerline was good because he set 15 franchise records his first year (hopefully you understand why). Again it's not to discredit Blake, I just find it funny that the records are a validation to his greatness. I do think Blake is good. He still makes a lot of mistakes and bad decisions. Some of it is due to youth, some of it is just bad all around. He definitely needs to improve quite a bit and I hope it happens.
Quote:Is there not an SEC bias? About quarterbacks in the NFL? No! The person that brought up SEC bias in this thread about qb's brought it up out of thin air....not one person here was touting how good SEC quarterbacks were. It was just made up.

He is the closest thing we've had to a franchise qb since Brunell, and in my opinion, Brunell was a system qb and the players around him made him look better than he was. I think Blake makes the players around him look better. No running game, terrible offensive line, but pretty good receivers and they work well together. To not give him credit where credit is due is pretty unfair. A second year qb breaking a 20 year franchise record is still impressive, regardless of your opinion. |
