General Douglas MacArthur early in WWII got run off the Bataan peninsula and left half his army and the entire Philippines to the Japanese because he couldn't match his green army against the seasoned Japanese military.

 

So according to you, the man who is widely considered the greatest CO of the 20th century was a bad CO because he couldn't outmatch experience when given an inexperienced group to lead.

 

MacArthur came back only after the US military gained the experience necessary to make the most of their skills and resources and crush the Japanese.

 

You will be hard pressed to find an example of a CO any time in history being able to have consistent success when leading any inexperienced group against a seasoned force unless they have a significant superiority in either numbers or technology, and in the NFL, those types of advantages are afforded to no one.

and sometimes what he has at his disposal is not enough...the phrase " doing the best you can with what you have" comes to mind...sometimes what you have just isn't enough to do what you want or need to do...

So he was a successful CO of the largest theater in WWII, the CO for 5 years of occupation and rebuild of a nation that would experience the greatest economic boom in history, and the CO of the largest UN action in history.

You can't even spell the guy's name right so that shows the value of your opinion on that subject.

 

The actual pertinent point is that even the greatest commanding officers are limited by the experience level of the troops they command and this is referring to the actual original comment not your abstract interpretation of it.
