Playoff scenarios

Quote:you speak too soon as well. Whether Pitt Beats Bengals or not,Pitt will make the playoffs and so will Bills

Why do you think this?

Simply put, should the Steelers beat the Bengals they are most likely the final seed even if the Bills win out and the Steelers lose to the Broncos. The only way for the Bills to beat out the Steelers in this event would be if the Steelers also lose a game to either the Ravens or Browns, and that's not likely to happen.

If you're talking about the Bills beating out either the Jets or Chiefs for the final seed with the Steelers taking the 5th seed, they'll need those teams to lose games as they do not control their own destiny. The Chiefs would have to lose two games, but they face the Chargers, Ravens, Browns and Raiders so that's not likely to happen. The Jets also have to lose two games, but I'll admit that's easier as they probably lose to the Patriots and would also be losing to the Bills of course as a result of the Bills winning out. Still, most likely the WCs would be the Steelers and Chiefs.

How can both the Steelers and Bills make the playoffs? Obviously neither of them will win the division.

Maybe there could be Steelers in one game and Bills in the other, but I am not ready to make that prediction before the Jets and Chiefs lose.

For this to happen the Steelers would make it as the 1st Wildcard (5th seed) and the Bills as the 2nd Wildcard (6th seed). But again, for this to happen you need the Steelers to beat the Bengals, the Bills to win out, and the Chiefs to lose two of their last four games against the weakest teams in the league. You also need the Jets to lose another game, but that's likely as they play the Patriots.

The Jets are in a slightly better situation that the Bills because they do control their own destiny. That is, if the Jets win their last four games, they're in, however, that's unlikely since one of those games is against the Patriots. Lose to the Patriots and they're in the same spot as the Bills. Should the Steelers win this weekend, the Jets would have to win their other three games including the final game over the Bills, but they would also need the Chiefs to lose two of their final oh-so-easy games.

Bills schedule: at Eagles, at Redskins, Cowboys, Jets

Steelers schedule: at Bengals, Broncos, at Ravens, at Browns

Chiefs schedule: Chargers, at Ravens, Browns, Raiders

Jets schedule: Titans, at Cowboys, Patriots, at Bills

From easiest to hardest, how would you rank them?

It's not as easy as ranking their final schedule because they don't all have to do the same..

-The Bills would have to win all four two of the other teams losing two games..

-The Steelers need to win three of their last four and their in.

-The Chiefs need to win three of their last four and their in.

-The Jets either have to win their last four, or win three of four with either the Steelers or Chiefs losing two games.

So it's which of these scenarios are easiest. From easiest to hardest, I'd say...

1. Chiefs

2. Steelers

3. Jets

4. Bills

Apparently you misread me. The Bills will not be eliminated by Jets and Chiefs wins tomorrow. What I want to see is how much better Buffalo's chances are if the Chiefs and/or Jets lose.

If the Jets lose tomorrow then they would have to beat the Patriots to stay in the hunt.

If the Chiefs lose tomorrow then suddenly the everything starts looking better for the other teams, but the Chiefs still need to lose a second game against the Ravens, Browns or Raiders to not be a WC. If the Chiefs win tomorrow you can practically write them in for one of the WC spots because they're not about to go 1-2 vs those three teams.

Actually we should wait until Monday after the Giants play at Miami if you want to do that.

But we can't think about only one thing at a time because several teams can clinch something this week.

With that remaining schedule I can't see the Chiefs losing LOL.

no team is clinching anything this week lol....aside from Cards.

you really think the NFL wants 3 weeks of pointless games?

Go back to page 2. One post there explains the Cardinals, Panthers, Bengals, Broncos, and Patriots can clinch playoff berths, division titles, or a bye week.

which I'm saying wont happen tomorrow because that would make multiple games pointless going forward.

you already know those teams are in the playoffs but their permant seed will not be decided tomorrow

It is still clinching something even though the "permanent" seed cannot determined yet.

Knowing who will clinch a playoff berth is not the same as that team actually clinching it, obviously.

Exactly. Cincinnati can lose tomorrow, but still clinch a playoff spot if Jets or Chiefs lose.

So, there most likely will be some "clinching" tomorrow by the Bengals one way or another.

I think the Steelers are going to win. As a matter of fact, I think the Steelers are going to win the next 2 games @Cincy and Vs Broncos the next week.

I REALLY hope Pittsburgh loses and doesn't make the playoffs. But, alas, I think they're getting in and possibly going to the Superbowl. Man, I hate the Steelers!

Both the Chiefs and Steelers are playing their best football at exactly the right time. I think they'll both make it in. But, we'll see.

I don't like the Steelers chances if they lose to Cincy.

I hope you're right. I really do.

Tomorrow's a big-time game for Cincy. We all know their recent history of big game performances going in the crapper. I hope they shake that off and put the Steelers down.
