Cornerback (Hargreaves specifically) most likely pick?

We'll see, I just don't get the point of being so adamant about a prospect before they even play a game at the next level. VH3 is a very talented college corner, but the labels being thrown at the guy are unrealistic IMO.

I have no idea why people want to think Fowler is done. He will be ready next season.

He will be our starting LEO. We will also get Marks back. We will also sign a DE in FA.

We could possibly get Berry in FA.

We can't afford to pass up a shutdown corner.

I guarantee we will draft a corner in round 1.

If Ramsey and vh3 grade out equally, who do you think gives more impact and upgrade?

I'll say that I would be happy with either one but neither will be successful if Andrew Luck has 5 seconds in the pocket every play.

I think Ramsey is destined to play safety where Hargreaves is a true corner, so the impact will be different.

What does that have to do with also needing an elite shutdown cornerback?

There is a big difference between needing a DL upgrade (which we do) and needing the specific players available to fix it. Drafting a linemen just because of his job title is putting a square peg in a round hole.

That last paragraph was scrambled my brain to the point of total discombobulation. You win.

I think we have an elite defense next year if we draft Hargreaves.

Guessing that Baltimore will have a very strong interest in either Ramsey or Hargraves

Think about it. We have a 4-3 defense with a Leo position. Not all defensive linemen are good at what we need our pass rushers to do. That is obvious if you watch more than one team.

We will have an elite cornerback. Obviously it is impossible to have an elite defense with only two elite players.

He won't be elite.

I really just don't see VH3 as an elite player. He does a lot right mentally and is very fluid, but lacks the body type you'd want in a top 10 pick.

He won't be a bust, but I think he will end up a disappointment if we take him that high.

For the poster comparing him to Peterson:

Peterson is listed as 6'1", 219 lbs. VH3 MAY be over 180 at 5'10".

If we take him I will hope to be wrong, but he gives me a bad feeling.

I'm so glad we have you here to clear that up for us.

You have no idea what our pick number will be. It could be as high as #8 or as low as #21.

I haven't watched him play much.  I don't watch Florida games.

An elite CB still won't make this defense better unless we find several more upgrades DL, LB and S.

An elite cornerback will make that position better, obviously.

Vernon Hargreaves was a monster last season, so this year quarterbacks started throwing away from him. That allowed teammate Jalen Tabor to have a great season.

I didn't say it wouldn't make the specific position better.

DL need > CB need by a long shot.

We need both. If the BADP at our pick number is a CB, we should pick him instead of the lower-valued DL. Value for the pick may not be there on the defensive line.

I would agree that if the CB is at another level than the DL then you don't pass on the better player.  However I would put CB at the low end of defensive needs.  I'd put it below any DL position, any LB spot not occupied by Telvin, and FS.

I don't know enough about the DL likely to be available or about Hargreaves to say right now.

The only DL I know about is Joey Bosa, who everyone says will be the #1 pick. Man I would be so happy to see him drop to us, but I can't see it happening.

Unfortunately free safeties are never mentioned as possible early first round picks. I only hear about linemen, linebackers, and cornerbacks on the defensive side. Every year is like that. So even though FS is the biggest need for us, we should not look for one in the first round.

Eric Berry and Earl Thomas.

Man wouldn't it be nice for us to be able to draft a guy of their caliber.  It would help this defense tremendously.

Oh yeah, that would be so awesome. Unfortunately those guys are exceptions if they were picked in the top half of the first round.
