I wish we would stop talking about LEO's and OTTO's and all the rest of it.  Whatever difference our defensive schemes looks like compared to other's is basically imperceptible.  They dont line our "LEOs" that far off the line.  They dont have our "LEO" do anything special.  It's just a pass rusher.  plain and simple.  Find the most athletic guy possible who can rush the passer.  There is nothing unique or innovative at all about that.

Not funny, just very stupid. Anyone who watches football should know statistics are very misleading and often meaningless. That includes the sack number. Dante Fowler's job description goes way beyond sacks and TFLs. It includes stuff you can't see on stat sheets. In addition, Fowler moved around at UF, playing both OLB and DE. So of course he was not supposed to meet the quarterback on every play.

Disregarding sacks and TFLs, there's quite a few guys in this class that put up just as many or better numbers than Fowler(the Georgia duo and Calhoun absolutely destroy them). Even in his own class, guys like Preston Smith and Trey Flowers equaled or surpassed his QB hurries/PBU numbers.

Disregarding sacks and TFL's is like disregarding TD's and YAC for a WR. Fowler was the best edge rusher coming out of last years draft, he's a freak athlete and is very fast for his size. Not only did he pressure the QB all game, but he was very good at stopping the run as well.

Meh. I mean, I get your frustration because I think it's a bit silly to use these terms but what else are you going to call them? LEO is a Weak Side Defensive End whose primary job is to rush the passer, that can get awfully wordy writing it out.

So we can just line him up at Free Safety then? Maybe flip him to TE for a few series in the red zone to replace the Yugo? Playing a guy out of position is foolish, and Fowler looks more like an LB than a DE.

frotto, potto, leo, otto. You can call him what ever you want. You can move the guy around anywhere on the front 7. Use can him in blitz packages or drop him into coverage. He can play more than 1 position

That's the point. Fowler isn't an every down pass rusher which is what this team needs. He's a utility guy who will hopefully be good at a bunch of things, we still need a true defensive end who wins against the tackle.

Fowler will rush the passer more than he will do anything else and be good at it. He will need some help comming off the othe edge though as you can never have enough pass rushers. The reason he will be moved around is to exploit miss matches. Im hoping we get another vet like Curry, Halli, or Ivin to come off the other edge. Could also see us taking a pass rusher in the 2nd if the value is there.
