Guy with all the tools to be elite (except the hands), I remember some people wanting him on the Jags leading up to the 2012 draft

 

 

The second-year wide receiver has slipped off the grid in his second season, and went his second consecutive game without a catch in Sunday's 37-14 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills.

<p style="font-family:arial, verdana, helvetica;color:rgb(34,34,33);">The absence of production can't be explained by a dearth of playing time. Hill has played 104 of a possible 121 snaps in the past two weeks.

I was one that wanted him.  Looks like I was way off on it. 

 

Of course, the guy we did take (who I also liked, but not top 5 liked) may be gone already, which just shows how well any of us can really predict this stuff.  Something worth keeping in mind when we're all arguing over the draft next year.

I was intrigued by Hill.  (How could you not be at 6'4" with a 4.3 - 40 time??)  He's definitely a guy you want to fall to you, IMO, given the lack of experience and inconsistency in college.  NOT a guy you trade up for like the jets did.

Meh, he blew out his knee and he's playing with a rookie QB. Not the best situation for him in year 2.

You wanted Hill in the 1st round? Wow.  (The Jets took him with the 11th pick of the second round,  ya know.)   

 

If want to compare the Jags picks to Hill there - it's Andre Branch you should be looking at.  At this point it looks like he might work out to be a decent rotational guy.  Hill is a huge question mark.   I wonder if Sullivan could whip him into shape.....  Hmmmmm.

 Because of the size/ speed/ athletic ratios and Stephen Hill coming from the same school as Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas,  I was surprised he lasted to the spot the Jets ended up taking him in the 2nd Round.   Even with the question marks that you mentioned.    I really thought at least one team would be willing to pull the trigger on Hill in the 1st Round,  even though there would have been major risk involved.

 

  While Hill could still put things together in the future,  right now it looks like he's not even going to have a career that reflects the spot the Jets took him.

I have serious doubts Blackmon will keep the straight and narrow after all that's transpired.


I think Sullivan may be the only coach who could get the most out of Hill.


It could end up being a win win for both teams with Blackmon one mess up away from ending his NFL career and with Hill already in the dog house in NY.

I think Sullivan may be the only coach who could get the most out of Hill.


It could end up being a win win for both teams with Blackmon one mess up away from ending his NFL career and with Hill already in the dog house in NY.

 

Assuming Justin Blackmon gets reinstated by the NFL,  this is a trade the Jets realistically would do.   With the Jets having a different GM than the one that drafted Stephen Hill.  along with Hill not playing to the level of his draft spot,   the Jets might look at it as a situation of what do they have to lose by making this trade. 

 

Of course the Jets would have to protect themselves with another viable alternative at WR on their roster,  in case Blackmon is suspended again.    But since Blackmon wouldn't cost the Jets that much in terms of salary cap space,  they might be willing to take the chance of bringing Blackmon into the fold. 

 

One key concern from a Jets perspective probably would be can Justin Blackmon handle the spotlight of playing and living in the NY Metropolitan Area.   The amount of media outlets that cover the Jets are much greater than anything Blackmon has seen in college or the NFL at this point in time.   Plus there's plenty of temptations in NYC and Northern NJ for someone with Blackmon's background.    Despite all of this,  my gut feeling is the Jets would make the trade providing owner Woody Johnson would be comfortable with it.

I didn't want him where we were in round one, but I wanted us to trade down and if he was there in the late first, yeah I would have liked him there. When he was still there in the second, I was pretty excited, but we passed on him again.


But yeah, obviously knowing now that he would be there in round two, I wouldn't want him in the first. But at the time, I figured he was worth a late first based on his measurables and potential.

What? No way. Hill is a guy that will be released. Blackmon will never be released.

 

He'll be banned from the NFL before he's ever released from the Jags.

Why would you. There's no reward with Hill. There's a huge potential reward if Blackmon can straighten himself out.
